PERA is seeking an experienced benefits professional to help members navigate some of the most significant and complex decisions affecting their financial well‑being. This position serves as a key resource in the administration of disability retirement benefits, ensuring members receive accurate information, timely service, and benefits administered in accordance with governing laws and policies.
Working independently and collaboratively, you will manage disability benefit cases, review supporting documentation, verify eligibility requirements, perform financial calculations, administer benefit offsets, and monitor continuing eligibility for disability payments. You will apply critical thinking and problem‑solving skills to analyze complex situations, interpret statutes and policies, and develop recommendations that support accurate and equitable outcomes.
As a recognized resource for disability benefits expertise, you will respond to complex inquiries, assist members and employers in understanding benefit provisions, support annual earnings review processes, and deliver educational information regarding PERA benefits. You will communicate complex retirement concepts to diverse audiences while fostering positive relationships built on professionalism, respect, and responsiveness.
In addition to case administration, you will contribute to program development by identifying opportunities for improvement, researching cutting-edge solutions, and recommending enhancements to procedures, policies, and statutory provisions that strengthen service delivery and program effectiveness.

This position is telework eligible and offers a hybrid work schedule, based on agency and department needs. Scheduled in-office workdays will be at the PERA office, 60 Empire Drive, Suite 200, St. Paul, Minnesota.
Candidates residing in Minnesota within 50 miles of our St Paul office may be eligible to telework up to 50%.
Candidates residing in Minnesota and more than 50 miles from our office may be eligible to telework more than 50%.
Candidates residing in a bordering state within 50 miles of our office may be eligible to telework up to 50%.

Minimum Qualifications

Three (3) years of professional level experience in retirement planning, program administration, or financial services.
A Bachelor's degree in business, accounting, human resources, or a related field may substitute for one (1) year of experience.
Experience using Microsoft Office or comparable software
Experience providing explanation of benefits or administering employee benefits
Experience performing mathematical computations concerning finances
Minimum qualifications that will be assessed during the interview process:
Experience using analytical and problem‑solving skills to evaluate facts, draw conclusions, and create recommendations.
Experience communicating both verbally and in written form to provide comprehensive benefit information to diverse stakeholders
Experience working independently and within a team, with experience using conflict management and human relations strategies to cultivate working relationships.
Ability to communicate effectively with individuals with a wide range of backgrounds, who do not share your same culture, ethnicity, language, or other common experiences.
Preferred Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Finance, Communications, Organizational Management, or a closely related field.
Experience administering retirement benefits, with the primary focus of delivering customer service, performing calculations, and providing legal explanations or interpreting benefit plans or policies.
Experience managing and administering programs and projects.
Demonstrated experience researching and implementing innovative ideas.
Experience translating laws, rules, regulations, and policies.
