In addition to regular maintenance responsibilities, the Facility Lead Hand is responsible for the enforcement of quality cleaning standards, monitoring the preventative maintenance of equipment and ordering and maintaining material and supply inventory. The Lead Hand will train, mentor, coach and guide staff on equipment operation, continuous improvement, operational efficiencies, and general and preventative maintenance, while ensuring service levels and safety standards are met.Major Job ResponsibilitiesEnsures all building equipment is functioning for optimal efficiencyPerform preventative and corrective maintenance tasks on various types of building equipment as requiredPerform painting, minor plumbing, electrical, dry walling and various building related repairsLiaise with a broad range of stakeholders including customers, residents, utility companies, vendors, and other employees.Validate contractor invoicing for accurate detailsMonitor and maintain up to date licenses, registrations, equipment safety checks and warrantiesMonitor facility components inventory and maintenance records and recommends equipment replacement, upgrades,
and repair work through annual capital and operating budget processesMaintain and administer purchasing and inventory control systems to ensure that adequate supplies, equipment are availableCoordinate and plan the day to day activities related to facility operations and customer service at an assigned facility/group of facilitiesAssist in ensuring day to day facility operations are in accordance with applicable regulations and legislationAssist in creating daily work plans based on facility programming requirementsAnticipates customers’ needs and proactively addresses potential concerns before they ariseCommunicate with program, facility and customer service staff to maintain a high level of team efficiencyAssist in the safe and efficient operation of facility systems; includes decision making in emergency situations to protect the safety of the public and/or the protection and maintenance of municipal assetsComplete weekly facility inspections, identifying areas in need of maintenance or cleaning to maintain service levels, following up as needed and maintaining quality assurance programsCoordinate equipment and material requirements, including ordering, purchasing, and arranging delivery or pickup.Respond and resolve requests for service in a timely and efficient mannerOther duties as assignedProvides day-to-day leadership and staff support to help ensure facility operations are delivered safely, consistently and in alignment with service standards.Provide daily direction and support to staff as neededProvide orientation, onboarding training and coaching to part time facility maintenance staff and monitor daily performance.Assist in the recruitment of part time staffAct as point of contact for staff questions and minor conflict resolution.Provide technical support, including in-house training, to ensure staff understand the procedures associated with the operation, maintenance, minor adjustment requirements and repairs to each facility’s components and systemsEnsure policies and procedures are communicated and service level standards are adhered to and maintained.Responsible for scheduling part-time and seasonal staffConduct weekly safety talks on specific facility topics to promote a culture of safety and address site-specific hazards or concerns and ensure that health and safety procedures are followed at all times.Maintain work records, complete work orders,
and provide feedback to the supervisor on facility operations and performanceEducation & ExperienceMinimum QualificationsSecondary school diplomaMinimum Two (2) years working in a municipal facility environmentProven knowledge of facility operations (including facility automation, electrical, plumbing, security), building maintenance, HVAC systems and risk management.Standard CPR and First AidCertified Pool Operator (CPO)Working knowledge of applicable legislation and regulations, i.e. OHSAStrong communication, interpersonal and customer service skillsEffective leadership, problem solving/troubleshooting skillsStrong mechanical aptitude to operate and train staff in the safe operation of relevant equipmentProficiency in Office 365A valid Ontario Driver’s License Class “G” with a satisfactory driving recordDetail orientated and ability to work independently or as part of a team.Satisfactory Criminal Record CheckPreferred QualificationsPost-secondary diploma in Recreation and Leisure, Facility Management or related field and/or combination of relevant post secondary education and related experienceExperience in preventative maintenance managementKnowledge of pool operation, refrigeration experienceSupervisory experienceB” class refrigeration licenseDemonstrated leadership ability to organize, assist and direct Facilities staff and program with minimal supervision.Demonstrated basic budgeting, purchasing, quotation, receiving and invoicing skills.Excellent verbal, written communication, interpersonal and customer service skills.Note to ApplicantsThis posting is for an existing job vacancy.The Town is an equal opportunity employer, committed to fostering a diverse, inclusive, accessible, and respectful workplace.
