Manual Machinist – Turning, Milling & Grinding
$28–$35/hour (negotiable based on experience)

Full time | Day Shift | Monday to Friday, 8:00 AM – 4:30 PM

The Machining Center is seeking an experienced Manual Machinist with strong skills in manual turning, milling, and grinding. This role is ideal for someone who takes pride in precision, understands the responsibility of working on customer-supplied, one-off repair components, and enjoys mentoring the next generation of machinists.

You will work in a low-volume, high-variety environment, completing maintenance and repair machining where accuracy, judgment, and confidence are critical. This position does not require CNC programming (but will help the candite stand out).

Responsibilities:

Perform manual turning and milling operations on lathes and mills

Complete cylindrical grinding and surface grinding to tight tolerances (we can train if needed)

Machine and repair customer-supplied, one-off components (e.g., shafts, bushings, housings)

Read and interpret blueprints, sketches, and verbal instructions

Plan machining steps independently with a focus on accuracy and part preservation

Conduct quality inspections using calibrated measuring tools

Work with a variety of materials (steel, stainless, aluminum, plastics, alloys, etc.)





Operate additional shop equipment such as saws, presses, and drill presses

Perform light machine maintenance and upkeep

Maintain a clean and safe work area while following all safety protocols (PPE, WHMIS, lockout/tagout)

Support and mentor apprentices as skills and experience allow

Qualifications:

5+ years of manual machining experience preferred

Demonstrated experience with manual lathes, mills, and grinding equipment

High level of confidence working on unique, non-repeat customer parts where creativity is encouraged

Strong ability to interpret drawings and understand fits, tolerances, and finishes

Excellent attention to detail, problem-solving skills, and mechanical aptitude

Ability to work independently and make sound machining decisions

Red Seal Machinist certification is an asset but not required

Interest in teaching and supporting apprentices is strongly preferred
