Laser Cutting Technician We’re looking for the right fit - could you be our missing piece?
Puzzle Lab is seeking a meticulous, hands‑on, and safety‑conscious part‑time Laser Cutting Technician to join our growing Production Department. This role is responsible for operating our laser‑cutting equipment and producing precision‑cut wooden puzzles that meet our standards for quality and care.
This position is expected to be approximately 28 hours per week, primarily scheduled Wednesday to Friday from 4:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m., plus a seven-hour Saturday shift. The timing of the Saturday shift is flexible. The schedule may shift over time based on production needs, with any changes communicated in advance.
Previous laser‑cutting experience is not required. We’re happy to train someone with the right attention to detail, mechanical aptitude, reliability, and willingness to learn.

Position Overview Reporting to the Production Manager, you’ll be an essential part of bringing our puzzles to life.



This is a hands‑on production role focused on operating our laser‑cutting equipment safely and carefully to create high‑quality wooden puzzles.
You’ll prepare materials, monitor cutting jobs, inspect work for quality and accuracy, and help keep our equipment and workspace clean, organized, and running smoothly. You’ll work both independently and alongside the rest of our Production Department to meet daily priorities and production goals.
The ideal candidate takes pride in careful, consistent work and enjoys the satisfaction of creating high‑quality physical products. You don’t need previous laser‑cutting experience, but you should be comfortable learning to work with tools, machinery, production software, and detailed safety procedures.

Key Responsibilities Laser Operation & Production Operate laser‑cutting machines according to established procedures and safety protocols
Prepare materials for cutting, including loading and unloading wood panels and securing materials correctly
Set up and monitor cutting jobs for quality, accuracy, and consistency
Inspect completed work and make adjustments as needed
Follow daily production priorities and work toward established output goals
Handle materials and finished products carefully to prevent damage or waste
Equipment Care & Safety Perform regular cleaning and basic maintenance on laser equipment
Keep laser machines and surrounding work areas clean, safe, and organized
Follow all equipment and workplace safety procedures
Identify and report equipment issues, unusual machine behaviour, or maintenance needs promptly
Report material and supply shortages to the Production Manager
Use tools, machinery, and personal protective equipment responsibly




Team & Production Support Communicate clearly and kindly with teammates
Work both independently and collaboratively once trained
Support a positive, reliable, and safety‑conscious production environment
Help the Production Department meet deadlines and changing production needs
Jump in where needed during busy periods and seasonal peaks
Preferred Skills & Qualities Strong attention to detail and pride in producing careful, high‑quality work
Reliable, punctual, and organized
Mechanically inclined and comfortable working with tools and machinery
Able to follow detailed instructions, established processes, and safety protocols
Comfortable performing focused and repetitive work while maintaining consistency
Comfortable learning basic computer programs and production software
Able to work independently while also being a supportive team member
Previous experience with laser cutters, CNC machines, or similar equipment is an asset, but not required
Experience in production, fabrication, woodworking, or another hands‑on environment is an asset, but not required
Familiarity with vector files or programs such as Adobe Illustrator is an asset, but not required
Familiarity with basic equipment troubleshooting and maintenance is an asset
Willing to learn new systems, tools, and processes
Appreciation for creativity, making, and the care we put into supporting artists, each other, and the planet
Work Environment & Physical Requirements This role involves standing for extended periods, frequent movement between work areas, regularly using stairs, and lifting and carrying materials weighing up to 40 lbs. Reasonable accommodation is available where required.
The production environment includes loud machinery and noticeable odours from laser‑cut wood and other production materials.
