**Job Title: Carpenter – Commercial Construction**
**Job Description**
This role focuses on commercial construction work on a large, long-term site.

You will build temporary hoarding, perform formwork and concrete preparation, complete parapet framing and backing, interior stair blocking, and support a variety of general construction tasks.

You will work as part of a large crew alongside other trades, receiving direction from the foreman at the start of each shift and then independently completing assigned tasks.

When carpentry work is limited, you will support general labor activities typical of a commercial construction environment.
**Responsibilities**
Perform commercial carpentry work including building temporary hoarding, parapet framing and backing, and interior stair blocking.

Complete concrete-related tasks such as formwork and concrete preparation in a commercial or industrial environment.

Use hand tools and power tools safely and efficiently for framing, finishing, and general construction tasks.

Follow daily instructions provided by the foreman and work independently to complete assigned tasks within the scheduled shift.

Collaborate with a large crew and other subcontractors to ensure smooth workflow and timely completion of project milestones.

Carry out general labor duties on site when carpentry-specific work is not available, maintaining productivity throughout the day.

Adhere strictly to all site safety procedures, including fall protection and WHMIS guidelines, and participate in safety-related activities.

Operate equipment such as zoom booms, skid steers, and aerial work platforms when appropriately ticketed and authorized.

Maintain a clean and organized work area, ensuring materials and tools are stored safely and ready for use.

Support high-rise residential and large commercial or industrial construction activities as required by project needs.
**Essential Skills**
Journeyman carpenter designation or experience as a JM or experienced apprentice carpenter with strong framing experience.

Proven experience in commercial construction, preferably on large commercial or industrial projects.

Hands-on experience with framing and finishing carpentry, including backing and blocking for interior stairs and parapets.

Ability to read and follow directions from a foreman and work independently to complete assigned tasks.

Proficient use of hand tools and power tools commonly used in carpentry and concrete preparation.

Valid fall protection ticket and practical experience working at heights, including high-rise residential environments.

Valid CSTS 2020 certification.

Strong understanding of concrete work, including formwork and concrete preparation.

Ability to work effectively within a large crew and coordinate with other trades on a busy commercial site.
**Additional Skills & Qualifications**
Operators ticket for equipment such as zoom boom and skid steer.

Aerial work platform ticket.

Valid WHMIS certification.

Experience on large commercial or industrial construction sites.





Comfort working in high-rise residential environments.

Strong safety mindset and willingness to participate in ongoing safety training.

Ability to adapt to both carpentry-specific tasks and general labor duties as site needs change.

**Work Environment**
The role is based on a transit-accessible commercial construction site.

The standard workweek is approximately 44 hours, Monday to Friday, with Saturday work as needed.

Typical shifts run from 7:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Monday through Thursday and 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. on Friday, with the expectation of being available on Saturdays when required.

The daily schedule includes two 15-minute coffee breaks and a 30-minute lunch, with the possibility of an additional 15-minute break after nine hours of work.

You will work outdoors and indoors on a busy commercial site, using a range of carpentry tools, concrete equipment, and, where ticketed, machinery such as zoom booms, skid steers, and aerial work platforms, all within a safety-focused environment.

This is a Contract position based out of Edmonton, AB.
**Pay and Benefits**
The pay range for this position is $35.00 - $42.00/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
