**Senior Geoenvironmental Engineer – Tailings Management**

**Overview**
A leading engineering and environmental consulting firm is seeking a
**Senior Geoenvironmental Engineer**
with strong expertise in
**tailings management**
to join its Calgary-based team.
This role offers the opportunity to work on
**large-scale, complex projects**
supporting clients in the
**oil sands and mining sectors** , with a focus on tailings management field programs, engineering analysis, and design.
**Key Responsibilities**
**Project Leadership & Management**
Lead multidisciplinary project teams and manage scope, schedule, and budgets
Ensure quality, safety, and performance standards are achieved
Mentor and support the development of junior staff
**Technical Expertise**
Provide technical leadership on complex geoenvironmental projects
Lead tailings management field investigations and studies
Conduct engineering assessments related to tailings, mine waste, and water management
Support all project stages: conceptual, feasibility, FEED, and detailed design
Develop compliant, defensible engineering analyses aligned with regulatory standards
**Client & Business Development**
Maintain robust client relationships and serve as a key technical advisor
Support proposal development, cost estimates, and project planning
Identify new business opportunities and contribute to growth initiatives
Participate in industry events, professional organizations, and networking
**Problem Solving & Delivery**
Analyze complex site conditions and large datasets
Develop innovative, practical, and compliant engineering solutions
Anticipate and mitigate technical, regulatory, and operational risks
**Communication & Collaboration**
Prepare high-quality technical reports and deliverables
Present complex technical information clearly to diverse audiences
Collaborate across disciplines to meet client and project objectives
**About the Role**
**Work Arrangement:**
Hybrid (Calgary-based office + remote flexibility)
**Travel:**
Approximately up to 10%, depending on project needs
**Work Environment:**
Fieldwork may involve industrial sites, challenging terrain, and regulated environments
**Required Qualifications**
Bachelor's degree in
**Mining, Geological, Geotechnical, Environmental, Civil Engineering** , or related field
**10+ years**
of relevant experience
**P.
Eng. (Alberta)**
or eligibility within one year
Strong proficiency with MS Office tools and general engineering software
Valid driver's license and acceptable driving record
Legally authorized to work in Canada without sponsorship
**Preferred Qualifications**
Master's degree in geoenvironmental, mining, or related discipline
Experience with
**tailings geotechnics, fine tailings, or flow behavior**
Knowledge of
**oil sands tailings and mine waste management**
Background in
**mining or mineral processing operations**
Demonstrated leadership, project management,
and client-facing experience
Consulting background and/or involvement in business development
