The Automation Technician is responsible for maintaining and supporting all of the automation equipment on the manufacturing floor.

This includes executing maintenance and calibration of tools and equipment while ensuring associated documentation and databases are kept up to date.

Additional duties include jig & fixture design to enhance and improve our manufacturing processes.

The Automation Tech is an important link between R&D; product development and manufacturing of LMI's product lines.

The successful candidate will have a high level of knowledge in mechatronics and precision mechanical assemblies.

Experience in optics is a bonus.

Project duties include: automation maintenance and design, reviewing and providing feedback on team members' designs, support and improvement of existing designs and first responder for manufacturing equipment support.

Working as part of our global Technology (R&D;) team, you will report to the Team Lead in the Automation Validation team and work at our Burnaby head office.

Maintenance and calibration of production tooling and equipment
Upkeep and improvement of maintenance database and documentation
Creates new jig designs to work with existing equipment or to support new products
Supports the design of new automated R&D; and production equipment
Works with the sensor design team to smoothly roll out new product introductions to existing or new automation infrastructure
Follows clearly established standards and guidelines as provided by the Team Lead
Understands and utilizes the tools and processes defined by the group to effectively carry out project work
Participates and leads regular design reviews and demonstrates strong adherence to checklist requirements
Follows task list breakdown and priorities given by Team Lead
Supports team delivery expectations against key project milestones
Works closely with their team mitigating issues with solutions
Produces required technical documentation as directed by Team Lead
Proactively contributes to and implements continuous improvement initiatives
Education and Qualifications
Diploma in Mechanical Engineering/Technology, Mechatronics, or Electrical/Controls Engineering/Technology
2-4 years working experience in a related field, with a focus on mechanical design and automation/controls




Broad skillset (mechanical, electrical, and programming experience ideally)
Excellent troubleshooting aptitude
Knowledge of Solid

Works or similar CAD software
Knowledge of mechanical design principles
Good knowledge of motion control systems and various industrial motion components (linear and rotary stages, stepper motors, servo motors, etc)
Basic understanding of metrology in theory and application
Basic understanding of precision machine design is an asset
Basic understanding of ASME Y14.5 GD&T; or ISO GPS Standard is an asset
Ability to communicate ideas and results clearly, concisely and effectively both orally and written
Pursues problem solving with explicit understanding of facts and defines test plan and solution strategies
Good verbal and written communication skills with a positive, collaborative mindset
Solid interpersonal skills are required to function appropriately in a team environment across departments
Experience in an ISO/Regulated manufacturing environment is an asset
Familiarly with precision measurement tools is an asset
Familiarity with optical systems such as lenses, cameras, or filters is an asset
Salary Range : $76,000 to $108,000 CAD + Eligibility for Profit Sharing Program Participation (pending successful completion of probationary period and based on business performance)

This is a hybrid position based out of our Burnaby, BC headquarters.

To support our collaborative model, preference will be given to local candidates that are able to work in the office on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays.
