Cipher Pharmaceuticals is seeking a detail-oriented and analytical Senior Accountant to join our finance team based in Mississauga, Ontario. This in-office role will be responsible for supporting accounting operations, financial reporting, budgeting, forecasting, and business analysis activities. The successful candidate will combine strong accounting expertise with financial planning and analysis (FP&A;) capabilities to provide meaningful insights that support strategic decision-making across the organization.
Reporting to the Corporate Controller, this position will work closely with the broader finance team to ensure accurate financial reporting, compliance, and operational excellence. This position will also work closely with the Director of Operations for the company’s U.S. operations, to provide financial support for this area of the business.
Duties and Responsibilities - Prepare and analyze monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports to support management decision-making.
- Assist in the development, maintenance, and enhancement of financial reporting processes and systems.
- Support the monthly, quarterly, and year-end close processes, including journal entries, reconciliations, and variance analysis.
- Perform and oversee key accounting functions, including Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, account reconciliations, and internal controls.
- Develop and maintain financial models to support forecasting, budgeting, cash flow management, and business planning initiatives.
- Partner with department leaders to support the annual budgeting process and ongoing financial planning activities.
- Analyze business performance and prepare regular forecasts, identifying trends, risks, and opportunities.
- Monitor financial results against budgets and forecasts, investigating variances and recommending corrective actions.
- Support the preparation of management reports, dashboards, and ad hoc financial analyses.
- Assist with annual audits, regulatory reporting requirements,
and the preparation of interim quarterly and audited annual financial statements.
- Support compliance with applicable accounting standards, internal controls, and company policies.
- Participate in process improvement initiatives to enhance efficiency, accuracy, and reporting capabilities.
- Collaborate with finance team members on special projects and strategic initiatives as assigned.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications - Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field required.
- Minimum of three (3) years of progressive accounting and financial analysis experience.
- Strong understanding of financial planning and analysis (FP&A;), budgeting, forecasting, and financial modeling.
- Experience preparing financial statements and supporting month-end and year-end close activities.
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including financial modeling, reporting, and data analysis.
- Experience with QuickBooks and/or other ERP/accounting systems preferred.
- Strong knowledge of IFRS and/or U.S. GAAP, financial reporting, and internal control principles.
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
- Robust written and verbal communication skills with the ability to communicate effectively across all levels of the organization.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities, meet deadlines, and work independently in a fast-paced environment.
- High level of accuracy, attention to detail, and professional judgment.
Preferred Qualifications - Experience working within a publicly traded company environment or supporting public company financial reporting requirements.
- Familiarity with external audit processes, financial controls, and regulatory compliance requirements.
- Experience in pharmaceutical, healthcare, life sciences, or other regulated industries.
- Experience with financial reporting and consolidation processes within a multi-entity organization.
- Familiarity with business intelligence and reporting tools such as Power BI is considered an asset.
- CPA designation or designation candidate is considered an asset.
