Your Mission The Senior Commissioning Manager is responsible for the planning, coordination, and execution of commissioning activities across Hydrostor’s A-CAES projects. This role ensures that all plant systems-subsurface, surface, and balance-of-plant are safely and effectively commissioned, tested, and transitioned to operations in alignment with project objectives and regulatory requirements.

Reporting to the Senior Director, Engineering Operations, you will work closely with EPCM partners, OEMs, contractors, and internal teams to deliver a fully integrated commissioning program and ensure the plant's operational readiness.

Your Day-to-Day Adventures

Develop and own the comprehensive commissioning plan for the plant, including both hot and cold commissioning activities across all systems

Lead end‑to‑end integration of new energy storage assets, ensuring technical, operational, and commercial readiness from project development through commissioning.

Coordinate with EPC/EPCM contractors to plan, sequence, and execute commissioning activities in alignment with project milestones

Build and manage the commissioning schedule, working closely with project controls to ensure proper integration with the overall project schedule

Lead commissioning activities across subsurface systems (including caverns and reservoirs) and above-ground systems, including turbo machinery and balance of plant

Collaborate with OEMs and vendors to integrate equipment-specific commissioning requirements into the overall plant commissioning strategy

Ensure mechanical and electrical systems are prepared for commissioning through structured checks, balances, and readiness reviews

Oversee development and execution of testing programs, including function testing, factory acceptance testing (FAT), and site acceptance testing (SAT)

Coordinate and support regulatory filings and compliance activities, including documentation for environmental, safety, and grid‑interconnection requirements.





Coordinate and support asset reporting requirements of lenders and partners

Manage and coordinate controls and automation activities, including development of logic, block diagrams, and system validation

Work with regulatory and compliance teams to ensure all permits, approvals, and requirements are in place to enable commissioning and grid connection

Coordinate with commercial and corporate teams on grid operations, ensuring readiness for synchronization and operational handover

Monitor commissioning progress, track key risks and issues, and drive timely resolutions to maintain project schedule and performance targets

Support transition from commissioning to operations, ensuring systems are fully tested, documented, and handed over in a ready state

Identify opportunities to improve commissioning processes, tools, and execution strategies as Hydrostor scales its project delivery capabilities

Who You Are We are seeking a hands‑on, technically strong commissioning professional who thrives in complex project environments and brings a structured, execution-focused approach to delivering results.

You are highly collaborative and can coordinate across multiple stakeholders, including engineering, construction, vendors, and regulatory bodies. You bring a strong understanding of system integration and commissioning workflows, coupled with the ability to anticipate challenges and proactively solve problems.

What You Bring

8–10+ years of experience in commissioning, start‑up, or project execution within energy, power generation, or large‑scale infrastructure projects

Bachelor’s degree in engineering (mechanical, electrical, systems, or related discipline); P.Eng. is an asset

Proven experience developing and executing commissioning plans across complex, multidisciplinary systems

Proven track record managing commissioning, asset onboarding, or technology deployment in a regulated energy setting.

Strong turbomachinery experience, including steam turbines, axial compressors, and thermal management systems in heavy process facilities

Strong understanding of commissioning processes, including system turnover, testing, validation, and operational readiness

Experience coordinating EPC/EPCM contractors, OEMs, and vendors during commissioning activities

Knowledge of both mechanical and electrical systems commissioning,



including control systems and automation

Experience with testing protocols such as FAT, SAT, and functional performance testing

Familiarity with subsurface or underground systems and/or balance of plant systems is an asset

Strong understanding of regulatory requirements and permitting processes related to commissioning and grid interconnection

Experience working with project schedules and integrating commissioning activities into broader project timelines

Excellent coordination, organization, and problem‑solving skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and stakeholders

Strong communication skills, with the ability to clearly convey technical information to cross‑functional teams and leadership

Experience supporting safe work practices and ensuring compliance with health, safety, and environmental standards

Ability and willingness to travel to project sites as required

Compensation Details

$140,000-175,000 base salary
