Description
We are seeking a compassionate caregiver for a 53-year-old woman living independently in an apartment in Kitchener. She has been diagnosed with body dysmorphic disorder and bipolar disorder, both of which are currently stable. After many years of challenges, she has made remarkable progress over the past three years, consistently managing her medications and maintaining her independence. She is young at heart with fantastic personal style and is doing better than ever before.
She previously worked with a caregiver for two hours, three days per week, and developed a wonderful relationship built on trust and companionship. Unfortunately, that caregiver is relocating in mid-October, and we need to find the right replacement to ensure continuity of care and support.
Responsibilities
Provide companionship and emotional support during outings and activities
Accompany her to grocery shopping and stay by her side throughout the store
Drive her to medical appointments and errands
Offer reassurance when she experiences anxiety or worries
Help her exit situations quickly if she becomes overwhelmed
Join her for social activities like going out for coffee
Recognize and respond calmly when body dysmorphic symptoms arise
Be present and engaged rather than waiting in the car or on your phone
What We're Looking For
Female caregiver with a valid driver's license and reliable vehicle
Outgoing personality with positive energy and warmth
Age range approximately mid-30s to early 50s, with some life experience
Understanding of body dysmorphic disorder, bipolar disorder, and social anxiety
Respectful approach to personal style and boundaries
Patient, calm demeanor with ability to provide reassurance
Takes initiative when needed and can take charge in challenging moments
Comfortable with companionship-focused care rather than personal care tasks
Reliable, consistent, and willing to commit to building a trusting relationship
Schedule
Monday, Wednesday, and Friday, approximately 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM (two-hour visits). Care is needed on long weekends as well. We are looking to start before mid-October to allow for shadowing with the current caregiver for approximately two weeks to ensure a smooth transition.
This is an opportunity to make a meaningful difference in someone's life by providing the companionship and support that helps her maintain her independence and well-being.

Additional Considerations
Experience with mental health conditions, particularly body dysmorphic disorder and bipolar disorder, is essential. The caregiver should understand that the client has a very specific personal style and presentation that is significant to her well-being. Sensitivity and respect regarding her appearance, particularly around her hair and wigs, is critical. The caregiver must be non-judgmental and avoid intrusive questions. The client may experience anxiety in public settings like grocery stores and will need someone who can provide reassurance, stay by her side, and help her exit situations quickly if needed. The caregiver should be prepared to offer calming support and redirection when the client becomes worried or begins to spiral. A warm, outgoing personality that can provide genuine companionship and conversation is important, as the client values having someone to talk to about her anxieties and daily life.
