Reporting to the Superintendent, the Paving Foreperson is responsible for the safe and efficient operation of the projects. This role involves ensuring paving machines and operators to spread and level hot mix asphalt on the subgrade of highways and streets. The Paving Foreman ensures that the asphalt mix is placed to the specified grade and thickness, meeting project specifications. This role is headquartered in Lethbridge and Ft. McMurray, and involves travel between both operational locations, accepting applicants from across Alberta. The company will provide and cover travel and accommodation costs for work‑related travel outside the designated geographic area.
How You’ll Add Value
Inspecting and prepping the area
Ensuring asphalt material is placed to correct grade and thickness
Coordinating with trucks delivering asphalt to the Paver
Inspecting newly paved surfaces for grade and quality
Managing daily construction and paving activities at site
Organizing and Planning to specific timelines and quality
Working and reporting to the Superintendent
Train and guide new employees on the secure and efficient operation of the paver and related equipment
Actively contribute to Volker Stevin Contracting’s safety culture, promoting a safe and productive work environment
What You Bring
High School Diploma or G.E.D. is preferred
Minimum of 3+ years of experience as a Paving Foreman is required
Minimum of 5+years of experience within the road construction industry
Knowledge of road construction materials, road construction processes and industry requirements
Understanding of computerized controls and electronics
Ability to repetitively lift and carry at least 50 lbs. regularly
Valid Class 5 Driver’s License with a Driver’s Abstract showing no more than 6 demerits and no major infractions
Note: Pre‑employment Drug and Alcohol Testing will be required.
