Fall protection engineering and design including system design & consulting, hazard assessment, and system inspection
Mechanical engineering and design including material handling, ore and product storage bins, machine and equipment design, transfer chutes, discrete element modelling (DEM), lifting/rigging engineering
Structural engineering including platform and connection design
Inspection services including fall protection inspections and asset integrity
We are currently looking for an Intermediate Engineer – Fall Protection & Structural Design to join our growing team.
The Role
As an Intermediate Engineer with Axis, you will be involved in projects from initial site investigation and hazard assessment through engineering design, installation review, inspection, and certification.
A significant portion of the role will focus on the design and assessment of engineered fall protection systems. You may also complete structural and mechanical engineering work associated with supporting structures, access systems, industrial equipment, and other client needs.
The successful candidate must be comfortable taking professional responsibility for their work, including reviewing and sealing engineering drawings and documentation within their area of competency.
This position is well suited to an engineer who enjoys a combination of engineering design, structural analysis, field work, inspection,
and direct client interaction. Previous fall protection experience is strongly preferred; however, we recognize that fall protection engineering is a specialized field and are willing to provide training to the right candidate with a strong structural or mechanical engineering background.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in civil/structural engineering, mechanical engineering, or a related engineering discipline
Registered as a Professional Engineer (P. Eng) with APEG
Approximately 5 - 7 years of relevant engineering experience
Strong understanding of both static and dynamic analysis
Effective verbal and written communication skills
Strong technical writing and engineering documentation skills
Strong organizational and project planning skills
Comfortable performing field work at industrial and commercial sites
Ability and willingness to take responsibility for engineering work and seal drawings and other documentation within your area of competency
People oriented with an ability to establish relationships, credibility, and trust
Must be legally authorized to work in Canada without Axis sponsorship at time of application
Other Valuable Experience
Experience in the design, inspection, and certification of engineered fall protection systems
Experience with fall protection hazard assessments and general hazard assessments
Experience with horizontal lifeline system design
Experience using Autodesk Robot, Solidworks FEA, and Inventor/NAS-TRAN FEA
Safety certifications and training
Industrial and on-site experience
Key Responsibilities
Perform fall protection hazard assessments and develop practical solutions for industrial and commercial facilities
Design engineered fall protection systems including permanent anchors, horizontal lifelines, rigid rail systems, guardrails, and related access systems
Analyze existing and new supporting structures for fall protection loads, including structural steel and concrete
Prepare calculations, technical specifications, engineering reports, drawings, and other project documentation
Review and seal engineering drawings, reports, and other documents within your area of professional competency
Create other documentation as per project requirements
Work directly with clients, contractors, fabricators, and installers to develop practical and constructible engineering solutions
Perform site visits for inspection, assessment, field verification, and documentation of existing structures and fall protection systems
Manage assigned projects, budgets, schedules, and deliverables
Work at client mine sites and other client facilities
Assist in preparing proposals, establishing client relationships, and client interaction
Support other structural, mechanical, inspection, and industrial engineering projects as required
Other tasks as required to meet our clients and operational requirements
