The Mechanical Designer is responsible for developing innovative, accurate, and cost-
effective mechanical designs from concept through manufacturing and commissioning.
This role works closely with internal teams, fabrication shops, and customers to deliver
high-quality solutions across ABCO’s four main industries: food processing, marine,
environmental, and industrial fabrication.
Duties & Responsibilities
Create detailed mechanical designs, drawings, and bill of materials for manufacturing
Develop conceptual designs and assist with proposals and technical sales support
Prepare project cost estimates and assist with budgeting
Coordinate projects across departments to ensure alignment and efficiency
Collaborate with fabrication teams to optimize manufacturability and production
processes
Perform quality checks to ensure designs meet company and customer standards
Support commissioning, troubleshooting, and performance evaluation of installed
equipment
Ensure all deliverables meet deadlines, specifications, and cost targets
Additional Responsibilities:
Communicate effectively with customers during design, sales, and project execution
phases
Contribute to the development and improvement of standard operating procedures
Stay current with industry trends, technologies, and manufacturing methods
Participate in team initiatives and continuous improvement efforts
Provide support to other departments as needed
Travel occasionally for site visits, commissioning,
and customer support
Skills & Qualifications
Diploma in Mechanical Engineering Design or related program required
2 + years’ mechanical design experience required. We are looking for individuals
ofintermediate to seniorskill level.
Proficiency in CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks, AutoCAD, or equivalent)
Robust understanding of mechanical design principles and engineering fundamentals
Experience with fabrication processes (welding, machining, forming, etc.)
Ability to produce and interpret detailed technical drawings
Strong problem-solving and analytical skills
Effective communication and teamwork abilities
Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word)
Preferred:
Experience in industrial equipment, food machinery, marine, or custom fabrication.
Working Conditions
Work Location/ Schedule:
Full Time, Weekdays
In person @ 81 Tannery Rd, Lunenburg, Nova Scotia
Work Environment:
Office-based with regular interaction with fabrication and production teams. Occasional
travel may be required for customer meetings, site support, and commissioning.
