Our client is a leading steel pipe distributor backed by a major global parent organization.

They are seeking an entrepreneurial, results-driven Sales Representative to re-establish and expand the company's market presence across Western Canada (primarily Alberta and Saskatchewan). In this role, you will be responsible for actively selling existing on-the-ground inventory (over 20,000 tons) by targeting foundation contractors, energy/drilling companies, and fabricators. Rather than simply taking order requests, you will leverage your industry knowledge to offer creative, cost-effective structural steel alternatives to site superintendents, estimators, and procurement managers.

Responsibilities

Drive Inventory Sales: Actively sell down on-the-ground Western Canadian inventory (approx. 20,000 tons) of structural steel pipe and reclassified casing rejects.

Market Reclaiming & Account Growth: Manage a target customer mix of roughly 70% existing/legacy accounts and 30% net-new business, re-establishing brand presence across AB and SK.

Consultative & Entrepreneurial Selling: Evaluate client specifications and proactively offer technical alternatives (matching tensile, yield, and weight per foot at competitive pricing).

Target Key Industry Verticals: Build trust and establish long-term relationships with foundation/piling contractors, energy sector operations (rat hole pipe applications), bridge/tunneling fabricators, and sign pole manufacturers.

Product & Market Strategy: Provide market feedback on product gaps, demand for unrepresented steel grades, and potential overseas/domestic steel packages to support business expansion.

Operational Collaboration: Spend time at the Millet yard walking the grounds with yard staff to visually track inventory, assess product grades, and ensure accurate order fulfillments.

System & Sales Management:



Accurately calculate footage, weights, tonnage, and markup margins while managing quotes and customer data within the company ERP system.

Required Skills and Experience

Steel Industry Experience: Minimum 5+ years of direct sales experience in steel, structural steel pipe, or steel product distribution.

Technical Aptitude: Ability to read, interpret, and convert simple product specifications (e.g., outer diameter, wall thickness, pipe grades, weight per foot, tensiles, and yield strengths).

Math & Estimating Proficiency: Solid ability to calculate linear footage, tonnage/weight, and markup margins quickly and accurately.

Entrepreneurial Mindset: Proven success in consultative selling—moving beyond fixed stock lists to propose alternative grades/specs that save clients money while maximizing margins.

Valid Driver's License: Required for site visits, client meetings, and yard walkthroughs.

Nice to Have Skills and Experience

Western Canadian Network: Pre-existing contacts among regional Western Canadian foundation contractors, piling companies, heavy civil contractors, and energy operators.

ERP Systems Knowledge: Hands-on experience with Microsoft Business Central (Microsoft 365) or similar inventory/CRM management systems.

Background in Related Sectors: Exposure to structural steel, piling/foundation work, heavy civil construction, or industrial supplies.

Pay Transparency:
