Your Opportunity:

As a Diagnostic Sonographer with the Echocardiography (ECHO) lab at the Mazankowski, you will be responsible for the coordination and performance of Cardiac Ultrasound examinations, including adult transthoracic, transesophageal, dobutamine stress echocardiogram, and exercise stress echocardiograms. In this position you will also be responsible for in-patient and out-patient tests as well as portable echocardiograms. Under limited supervision, you will perform standardized and complex procedures for the diagnosis and tracking of disease and pathology. Leadership duties as an ECHO Diagnostic Sonographer include teaching ultrasound students and medical residents.

Description:

As a Diagnostic Sonographer I, you will perform a variety of standardized and complex ultrasound services for the diagnosis and tracking of disease and pathology. Your responsibilities include preparing the patient for examination, reviewing patient history, explaining procedures, obtaining ultrasound images of diagnostic quality, and takes initial action to resolve abnormal findings. You will assist with diagnosis, clinical intervention and patient management all while ensuring a high level of patient care and safety. Your work may include assisting Radiologists and Cardiologists, Perinatologists and other medical staff with special procedures where required.

Required Qualifications

Completion of extended diploma from an accredited ultrasound program or completion of certification in Diagnostic Sonography from an accredited program.

Active or eligible for registration with Sonography Canada and/or American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARDMS).

Note: As of July 6, 2026 active or eligible for registration with the Alberta College of Medical Diagnostic & Therapeutic Technologists (ACMDTT) is required.

Current Basic Cardiac Life Support Healthcare Provider (BCLS-HCP).

Additional Required Qualifications

Must be able to lift, mobilize and transport patients via stretcher and wheelchair and walk long distances.

Ability to work in a physically demanding environment.

Ability to walk long distances.

Ability to push the echo machine for long distances multiple times during a shift.

A satisfactory reference from your current direct manager will be required prior to hire.
