Job Title: Staff Accountant Industry Sector: Legal (Family Law) Salary: $80,000-90,000 Location: Toronto-hybrid work schedule Our client is a successful Toronto based Family Law firm.
About The Role Reporting to the Controller and working within a small team of 3, you will support the firm’s day-to-day financial operations, with a primary focus on the full client billing cycle, accounts receivable and collections, work-in-progress monitoring, and cash applications.
Responsibilities Include - Manage the client billing process from prebill preparation through review, revision, finalization, and delivery of invoices to clients.
- Coordinate with lawyers and members of the accounting team to resolve billing questions, correct time or disbursement entries and meet billing deadlines.
- Maintain accurate billing records and save supporting correspondence in accordance with firm procedures.
- Monitor accounts receivable,
apply client payments and follow up on outstanding accounts professionally and promptly.
- Monitor work in progress (WIP), identify aged or unusual balances and assist with regular WIP review and reporting.
- Periodically identify past due accounts and send reminder notices to clients.
- Maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive client and financial information with sound judgment.
Qualifications - Post-secondary education in accounting or administration - 5+ years accounting experience in a law firm or other professional services workplace is REQUIRED - Working knowledge of billing, accounts receivable, WIP, and collections processes.
- Proficiency with Excel and Outlook and experience with Soluno is preferred.
- Strong numerical accuracy, attention to detail and organizational skills.
- Clear, professional written and verbal communication skills.
