We are excited to offer an apprenticeship opportunity designed to support indigenous talent in building a meaningful and rewarding career in Water & Wastewater Operations.
As an apprentice you will receive hands‑on training, mentorship and structured learning to develop skills in water operations. This position will prepare you for a long‑term career in the water wastewater utility industry. The ideal candidate will assist in operating, maintaining and monitoring water systems while working under the supervision of a licensed water wastewater operator. The successful applicant will follow a rotational schedule of 14 days on and 14 days off.
Responsibilities
- Assist with daily monitoring of Potable water systems.
- Assist in the operation and maintenance of water treatment and distribution systems
- Ability to perform "hands-on" field work, mastering physical demands and labor‑intensive tasks, while adapting to extended hours in remote locations.
- Commitment to learning and understanding tasks at each stage of the training program, encompassing paper‑work procedures, safety protocols, and the fostering of team and customer relations.
- Adherence to company policies and procedures, as well as compliance with health and safety regulations, always ensuring the maintenance of safe work practices.
- Performs other duties as directed by supervisor.
Qualifications
- Identifies as an Indigenous person
- Grade 12 Diploma or equivalent is required
- Mandatory Entry Level Training – AWWOA provides two options (only 1 is required
- Entry Level Training Course (3 days - virtual classroom -OR- self‑paced correspondence learning with online or home study options)
- Level I Certification Prep Course (4 days - in‑person -OR- self‑paced correspondence learning with online or home study options)
- One year of work experience in a Level I or higher Provincially recognized facility
- Pass the Provincial Certification Exam
- Ability to lift 50+ lbs
- Strong mechanical aptitude and willingness to learn
- Excellent communication and organization skills.
- Positive attitude and a team-player.
- Possess a valid Class 5 Drivers license and driver abstract that meets company’s Protected Vehicle Use policy.
- Must be able to pass a pre-access Drug & Alcohol test
