Job Title: Academic Instructor
Commitment: September 29th, 2026 - December 14th, 2026
Duration: 5:00 pm - 8:00 pm
Location: Sobeys Stadium
Compensation: $20/hour

Who We Are:
The Jane / Finch Community Tennis Association is a community-based not-for-profit organization that is committed to operating within an Anti-Oppressive and trauma-informed framework to engage our community. We aim to work in a manner that is both productive and constructive to enhance individual strengths; and promote positive developmental outcomes for young people. JFCTA utilizes sport as a vehicle to develop the capacity of youth within our organization and community.
Our programs are explicitly designed to be low-cost, and barrier-free.

We are seeking an Academic Instructor to support the in-class component of our After School Program. The right candidate will have experience teaching or tutoring children and youth, with the ability to support a range of academic subjects based on participant needs.
Responsibilities:
The Academic Instructor will report for the After-School Program on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 5:00 pm-8:00 pm beginning October 1st, 2026, and concluding on December 14th, 2026. Paid training day will be Tuesday, Sept 29 at 5pm in the program location. Possibility of contract extension up to June 2027, pending funding.
- Provide targeted academic support in subject areas aligned with student needs, including homework help, assignments, and skill-building.
- Deliver engaging, structured, and subject-specific learning activities to strengthen literacy, numeracy,
and overall academic confidence.
- Support youth-led projects using creative, accessible, and inclusive teaching approaches.
- Collaborate with program staff to ensure a supportive and engaging classroom environment.
- The Academic Instructor will follow the JFCTA code of conduct policies and ensure that they adhere to the Kids Quality Standard Guidelines.
- Work collaboratively with the Head Coach to ensure smooth transitions between classroom and court space.
- The Academic Instructor will report directly to the Program Operations Manager.
Skills and Attributes:
- Experience working with children and youth in the Jane/Finch area or similar community
- Experience teaching or tutoring children and youth in academic subject areas (e.g., literacy, math, science, or general homework support)
- Solid ability to adapt instruction to different learning levels and needs
- Ability to work as a team and independently
- Standard First Aid or are willing to obtain them shortly after being hired within 2 weeks of the job offer
- Must provide a successful background check
Assets:
- Experience working within the Jane and Finch community
- Involvement in a youth sport for development program
- Passion for sport and healthy lifestyles and in working with children/youth
- Enrollment or completion of a concurrent B Ed. program or Teacher's College.
