Position Summary

The Articling Student assists with year-end engagements, corporate and personal income tax returns, bookkeeping, and other accounting and tax services. Working under the supervision of senior team members, the Articling Student will develop the technical knowledge, qualified judgment, and client service skills required to progress within public accounting.

Key Responsibilities

- Prepare working paper files for compilation and other year-end engagements.
- Review and reconcile client accounting records and prepare adjusting journal entries and supporting schedules.
- Prepare Canadian personal (T1) and corporate (T2) income tax returns and assist with GST/HST and other tax filings.
- Perform bookkeeping, account reconciliations, and general ledger review as assigned.
- Identify missing information, discrepancies, or unusual transactions and seek guidance where required.
- Communicate with clients to obtain information and address routine questions.
- Maintain organized and appropriately documented files and respond to review notes promptly.
- Manage assigned work in accordance with Firm priorities, budgets, and deadlines.
- Maintain accurate workflow and time records and communicate delays or outstanding information.




- Participate in Firm training and professional development and apply feedback to future assignments.

Qualifications

- Degree or diploma in Accounting, Business, Commerce, or a related discipline, or currently completing an applicable program.
- Enrollment in or intention to pursue the CPA Professional Education Program (CPA PEP).
- Basic understanding of accounting principles and financial statements.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office, particularly Excel.
- Experience with Caseware, TaxPrep, QuickBooks, Sage, or similar software is considered an asset.
