Our Client is seeking an experienced BAS Specialist / Senior Automation Systems Technician to support the engineering, configuration, commissioning, troubleshooting, service, and ongoing performance of Building Automation Systems.
This is a hands-on technical role combining detailed BAS engineering and system configuration with advanced field troubleshooting, programming, commissioning, maintenance, and technical support .
The successful candidate will work with BAS databases, points, controllers, alarms, trends, integrations, system communications, and related engineering data while also supporting customer systems, field activities, migrations, retrofits, and technical issue resolution.
What You’ll Do
- Perform detailed BAS/BMS engineering and system configuration across assigned systems and projects.
- Prepare, review, and maintain point databases, points lists, equipment data, and related engineering information.
- Configure BAS points, objects, controllers, devices, schedules, setpoints, commands, and related system functions.
- Configure and validate alarms, priorities, trends, trend logs, and historical data requirements.
- Support system navigation, graphics, users, permissions, and related operational configuration.
- Validate engineering data against controls drawings, points lists, controller information, sequences of operation, and field conditions.
- Identify and resolve missing, duplicate, inconsistent, obsolete, or incorrectly configured BAS data.
- Program and modify BAS controllers and controls logic for new and existing systems.
- Diagnose and troubleshoot complex BAS software, controller, communication, network, and field-device problems.
- Respond to technical service, maintenance, and system-performance issues.
- Perform BAS system checkout, start-up, testing, tuning, and commissioning.
- Support maintenance, repair, and replacement of installed BAS equipment and components.
- Support BAS modernization, retrofit, integration, and migration activities.
- Assist with migration or reconfiguration of points, databases, alarms, trends, graphics, schedules, and other system information.
- Integrate BAS controllers, devices, gateways, and third-party equipment.
- Support BACnet and other applicable BAS communication and integration requirements.
- Review and interpret controls drawings, wiring diagrams, sequences of operation, points lists, specifications, and other technical documentation.
- Troubleshoot and resolve point mapping, object references, database, configuration, and integration issues.
- Perform pre- and post-change validation to confirm system functionality and communication.
- Support commissioning and functional verification activities.
- Prepare accurate service reports, technical records, issue logs, test results, configuration records, and project documentation.
- Provide technical support to customers, end users, technicians, and other project personnel.
- Mentor and transfer technical knowledge to less experienced BAS technicians or specialists where required.
- Coordinate with Systems Integrators, technical leads, Project Managers, field teams, and commissioning personnel.
- Participate in emergency or after-hours technical support where required.
- Follow applicable project, site, safety, quality, and technical requirements.

- Experience interpreting controls drawings, wiring diagrams, points lists, and sequences of operation.
- Valuable mechanical and electrical aptitude.
- Ability to resolve technical configuration and system-performance issues.
- Strong organizational and documentation skills.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Preferred Experience The following would be particularly valuable:
- Experience with major commercial or enterprise BAS/BMS platforms.
- Multi-building or campus BAS environments.
- BAS modernization or migration projects.
- BACnet/IP and BACnet MS/TP.
- Third-party controller and system integration.
- Advanced controls programming.
- BAS graphics and operator-interface configuration.
- Commissioning and functional testing.
- Data centres, healthcare, laboratories, pharmaceutical, manufacturing, institutional, or other critical environments.
- Manufacturer-specific BAS/BMS training or certifications.
Experience & Education
- Technical diploma in Building Automation, Electronics, Electrical, Electromechanical, Mechanical, Controls, or a related discipline is preferred.
- Relevant trade or equivalent industry experience may be considered.
- Approximately 5+ years of relevant BAS/BMS field service, engineering, programming, integration, or commissioning experience is preferred.
- Strong hands-on programming, troubleshooting, and commissioning experience is highly preferred.
- Experience working independently on complex BAS technical issues is expected.
- Manufacturer or industry-specific BAS certifications are considered an asset.
Additional Requirements
- Must be legally eligible to work in Canada without employer sponsorship.
- Valid driver's licence required.
- Must be able to travel regularly to customer and project sites throughout the GTA and surrounding regions.
- Must be comfortable working within active commercial, institutional, industrial, construction, and technical environments.
- Some emergency, after-hours, commissioning, or cutover work may be required.
