The Dental Sterilization Assistant is responsible for ensuring all dental instruments, equipment, and operatories are properly cleaned, disinfected, sterilized, and prepared in accordance with BCCOHP and practice protocols. This role is essential in maintaining a protected, compliant, and efficient clinical environment for patients and staff.
Key Responsibilities
- Collect, clean, disinfect, package, and sterilize dental instruments and handpieces
- Operate sterilization equipment (e.g., autoclaves, ultrasonic cleaners, instrument washers)
- Monitor and document sterilization cycles, including biological and chemical indicators
- Maintain accurate sterilization logs and compliance records
- Ensure proper storage and rotation of sterile instruments
- Disinfect operatories between patients following infection control guidelines
- Assist dental assistants and clinical staff with instrument setup as needed
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent required
- Dental office or healthcare experience preferred
