Position Overview

The experienced Director of Operations & Maintenance (O&M;) will lead its growing North American solar O&M; organization. Based in Calgary, the Director will be responsible for the safe, reliable, and high-performing operation of a portfolio of utility-scale solar assets while continuing to develop and scale the company's O&M; capabilities across North America. This individual will provide leadership across plant operations, preventive and corrective maintenance, remote monitoring, performance optimization, warranty management, and field service. The Director will lead internal and external resources, maintain robust relationships with asset owners and customers, and work closely with engineering, construction, and commissioning teams to ensure seamless transition of projects into long-term operations.

Key Responsibilities

- Lead the O&M; function and oversee the operational performance and maintenance of utility-scale solar assets across North America.

- Manage and develop O&M; personnel, field technicians, service providers, and subcontractors.

- Establish and continuously improve O&M; processes, procedures, safety standards, reporting systems, and operational KPIs.

- Oversee plant monitoring, fault detection, troubleshooting, corrective maintenance, and service dispatch.

- Develop and manage preventive maintenance programs, inspections, and scheduled field activities.

- Monitor plant performance, availability, and energy production; identify underperformance and implement corrective and optimization strategies.

- Manage technical issues involving PV modules, inverters, trackers/racking, medium-voltage equipment, monitoring/SCADA systems, and balance-of-system equipment.

- Lead root-cause analysis of significant equipment failures and recurring performance issues.

- Manage OEM relationships, warranty claims, spare-parts strategy, and major repair and retrofit initiatives.

- Ensure O&M; activities meet applicable health, safety, environmental, and regulatory requirements.





- Own customer relationships for O&M; accounts, including performance reviews, reporting, issue resolution, and contract compliance.

- Develop and manage O&M; budgets, forecasts, and cost-control initiatives.

- Participate in the development and negotiation of new O&M; contracts and support growth of the O&M; business.

- Collaborate with EPC, engineering, construction, and commissioning teams to improve project handover and incorporate operating experience into future plant designs.

- Support due diligence and technical evaluation of new assets entering the O&M; portfolio.

- Identify opportunities for plant optimization, repowering, upgrades, and other value-added services.

Qualifications

- 8+ years of experience in renewable energy operations, asset management, field service, power generation, or a related technical environment.

- 5+ years of direct utility-scale solar O&M; experience strongly preferred.

- Demonstrated experience managing the operations and maintenance of a portfolio of utility-scale solar assets.

- Strong technical understanding of PV systems, including inverters, modules, trackers/racking, electrical balance of plant, medium-voltage systems, and plant monitoring/SCADA.

- Experience leading field personnel and third-party service providers.

- Strong understanding of preventive and corrective maintenance programs, plant availability, performance ratios, and operational KPIs.

- Experience managing OEM warranties, subcontractors, spare parts, and major corrective-maintenance activities.

- Strong customer-facing skills and experience managing relationships with asset owners, IPPs, and other project stakeholders.

- Experience with O&M; contracts, budgeting, and financial management.

- Strong safety orientation and knowledge of applicable electrical and workplace safety requirements.

- Bachelor's degree in engineering, electrical technology, or a related technical discipline preferred; equivalent relevant experience will be considered.

- Ability to travel to operating project sites throughout Canada and the United States.
