Position OverviewThe MPI Greater Calgary Chapter is seeking a creative, organized, and digitally savvy Director of Social Media to join the Board of Directors. This volunteer leadership role is responsible for managing the Chapter’s social media presence, creating engaging content, promoting events and initiatives, and building meaningful connections with our professional community.
The ideal candidate has experience with social media management and content creation, understands branding and digital engagement, and enjoys telling stories through social media.
Reports ToVice President of Marketing & Communications and President, as assigned.
TermOne year, or as otherwise determined by the Board of Directors and MPI Chapter Bylaws.
Key Responsibilities
- Serve as a voting member of the MPI Greater Calgary Chapter Board of Directors.
- Attend and participate in Board of Directors meetings.
- Manage the Chapter’s social media presence across platforms such as LinkedIn, Instagram, and Facebook.
- Create, write, schedule, and publish engaging social media content.
- Promote Chapter events, educational opportunities, networking events, and other initiatives.
- Develop content that aligns with MPI’s brand, messaging, and overall marketing strategy.
- Provide live event coverage, including photos, videos, reels, stories, and behind-the-scenes content.
- Engage with followers by responding to comments, messages, and relevant community interactions.
- Support event promotion strategies and collaborate with the Marketing and Communications team.
- Maintain consistent branding and messaging across all social media channels.
- Monitor social media performance and track engagement metrics.
- Provide insights and recommendations based on social media analytics.
- Help strengthen MPI’s online presence and build engagement within Calgary’s meetings and events community.
- Perform other duties as delegated by the President and/or Board of Directors.
- Support and uphold policies and programs adopted by the Board of Directors.
Qualifications & Experience
- Experience managing social media platforms and creating digital content.
- Solid understanding of social media trends, branding, and digital engagement.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Creative, organized, and detail-oriented.
- Comfortable creating content in a fast-paced event environment.
- Ability to capture engaging photos and short-form video content.
- Understanding of social media analytics and performance metrics.
- Strong storytelling and community-building skills.
- MPI membership in good standing is preferred.
Time CommitmentThis is a volunteer Board position requiring:
- Regular attendance at MPI Chapter events to provide live social media coverage.
- Ongoing/daily management of social media content and engagement.
- Attendance at scheduled Board of Directors meetings.
- Collaboration with the Marketing & Communications team throughout the year.
