Position Summary The Estate Planning Legal Assistant is responsible for supporting Beacon Law's estate planning practice, including the drafting of wills, trusts, powers of attorney, and representation agreements for clients. Solid organizational skills are essential, requiring the ability to independently develop plans and document lists while remaining adaptable to direction and restructuring as needed. This position is based at our Victoria or Sidney office and requires a strong working knowledge of source legislation with a high degree of drafting accuracy.

Accountabilities

- Draft wills, powers of attorney, representation agreements,



trust agreements, and related estate planning documents in accordance with client instructions and solicitor direction.
- Conduct Wills Registry searches and register wills with the Vital Statistics Agency; maintain estate planning files in electronic and physical form.
- Track document review, renewal, and execution deadlines across the client base and proactively flag upcoming obligations.
- Draft, edit, format, and revise legal documents ensuring timely and accurate completion in compliance with legislation, including the Wills, Estates and Succession Act (WESA).
- Coordinate document execution appointments, including arranging witnesses and notarization as required.
- Liaise with clients, financial institutions, and other professionals (e.g., financial advisors, accountants) to gather information needed for estate planning instruments.
- Administer client files including client identification, scanning, electronic filing, billing, and invoicing.
- Ensure adherence to legal, regulatory, and firm policies to mitigate risk and maintain compliance.
- Support the legal team with additional administrative tasks as required.

Who You Are:

- Proven work experience as a Legal Assistant with estate planning exposure of 3+ years
- Familiarity with BC estate law (including WESA), legal procedures and protocols, and day-to-day operations of a legal office
- Hands-on experience with Unity, MyLTSA,



Vital Statistics Wills Registry and Microsoft Office Suite
- Strong English proficiency both written and verbal, with the ability to communicate effectively at all levels of an organization, both internally and externally
- Practice sound discretion and judgement while handling multiple activities and competing priorities, including sensitive client matters
- Ability to maintain a high degree of accuracy while tracking open files and ensuring relevant information and documents are clearly laid out for others to review and assist
- Legal Assistant or Paralegal certification or diploma (preferred)

Job Types: Full-time, Permanent

Pay: $55,000.00-$70,000.00 per year
