BOLD Centre is a community-focused organization based in Baddeck, Nova Scotia, serving seniors, children, youth, families, caregivers, and other community members throughout Victoria County and surrounding rural communities.

Through programs, workshops, camps, after-school activities, events, and community initiatives, BOLD Centre creates opportunities for people to connect, participate, learn, and thrive.

About the Position

BOLD Centre is seeking an Executive Director to provide leadership and day-to-day management of the organization.

This is a hands-on leadership position within a small and growing organization. BOLD Centre currently has three full-time and three part-time employees. The Executive Director will lead and support the staff team while providing organizational oversight in business and organizational management, human resources, financial management, operations, funding development, community partnerships, and organizational planning.

The Executive Director will work closely with the Board of Directors to ensure BOLD Centre operates effectively, remains financially responsible, and continues to grow its capacity and community impact.

This is a hands-on leadership position for an organized, capable, and community-minded professional who is comfortable managing people, finances, priorities, operations, and relationships.

The successful candidate will bring strong business and organizational judgment, financial literacy, leadership and strategic thinking, and strong people-management skills. These capabilities are essential to the successful operation and continued growth of BOLD Centre.

Key Responsibilities

- Provide leadership, direction, and oversight to all staff.
- Oversee human resource functions including recruitment, onboarding, performance management, staff development, and employee relations.
- Develop and monitor organizational budgets and provide financial oversight.
- Review financial information, identify concerns and opportunities, and provide regular reporting to the Board.
- Ensure effective organizational systems, policies, procedures, and administrative practices are in place.
- Support staff in the effective delivery of BOLD Centre's programs and services.
- Oversee grant and funding activities and support fundraising and sponsorship initiatives.
- Develop and maintain relationships with funders, donors, businesses, community organizations, government representatives, and other partners.
- Represent BOLD Centre within the community and promote its programs and services.
- Work with the Board on organizational priorities, planning, sustainability, and future development.




- Identify opportunities to strengthen BOLD Centre's operations, resources, partnerships, and community impact.

- Ability to work effectively in a small organization where the Executive Director is expected to be both strategic and hands-on.

- Demonstrated ability to understand and work with organizational budgets and financial information.
- Ability to monitor spending, assess financial information, identify concerns and opportunities, and make sound financial decisions.
- Ability to understand financial statements and use financial information to support organizational decision-making.
- Ability to communicate financial information clearly and effectively to the Board.
- Experience with budgeting, financial reporting, financial administration, or financial oversight is essential.
- Sound financial judgment and an understanding of responsible organizational financial management.

Leadership & Strategic Thinking
- Ability to balance strategic thinking with hands-on day-to-day management.
- Strong judgment, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
- Ability to establish priorities and manage competing demands in a changing environment.
- Ability to work collaboratively with a Board of Directors while providing clear leadership, recommendations, and accountability.
- Ability to recognize opportunities, anticipate challenges, and help position BOLD Centre for sustainable growth.
- Ability to translate organizational priorities into practical plans and actions.

Human Resources & People Management
- Demonstrated experience supervising and managing employees.
- Ability to recruit, onboard, support, develop, and evaluate staff.
- Confidence addressing performance concerns, workplace issues, and employee relations matters.
- Ability to establish clear expectations while building a positive, respectful,



inclusive, and productive workplace culture.
- Ability to support staff development and organizational capacity.

Qualifications & Experience We recognize that strong leadership can come from a variety of professional and community backgrounds. We value experience, judgment, leadership ability, and transferable skills rather than a specific career path.

Relevant experience may include

- Organizational or operational management
- Business management or administration
- Human resources and staff supervision
- Financial management and budgeting
- Grant writing, funding development, or fundraising
- Project management
- Community engagement and partnership development
- Nonprofit, business, municipal, education, healthcare, or community-sector experience

Nonprofit experience is an asset but is not required. Candidates with strong management, financial, human resources, organizational, or operational experience from other sectors are encouraged to apply.

The successful candidate will be an effective communicator, organized and dependable, comfortable making decisions, and able to manage competing priorities. They will demonstrate sound financial judgment, strong people-management skills, business and organizational acumen, and the ability to build positive and productive relationships.
