The Kwanlin Dün First Nation is seeking applications for those who wish to be considered for the School Crossing Guard. Reporting to the Manager of School-Age Education, this position is responsible for the safety of the students crossing the road to attend Elijah Smith School.
The School Crossing
Guard will be a positive role model and leader to the KDFN children. The program will operate seasonally during the days that the school is open, from September until June (10 months).
Job requirements & conditions of employment:
- Willingness to work split shifts, flexible work arrangements possible; - Ability to walk and stand for long periods of time; - Working outdoors with exposure to weather elements; - Constant attention (both sight and hearing) to identify hazards; - Transparent criminal records check with vulnerable sector check; - Current First Aid/CPR certification; - Valid Yukon driver’s license is an asset.
Considerations for this opportunity include:
- Completion of eighth grade; or equivalent schooling and experience to perform essential duties of the job; - Knowledge of Yukon Traffic Laws, basic safe driving rules and procedures, and emergency procedures; - Ability to gain the attention and cooperation of school children and other pedestrians; - Ability to communicate effectively; - Ability to follow written and verbal instructions; - Ability to work effectively with supervisors, children, parents, and school employees; - Ability to observe and record license numbers and incident details accurately; - *KDFN has generous employer-paid benefits package and a matching pension plan that commences after 3 months of continued employment plus generous paid leave accruals.
