The Field Inspector is responsible for conducting regular site inspections across stations, facilities, and operational areas to ensure that maintenance, repair, construction, and contractor activities are completed safely, properly, and in accordance with applicable standards, procedures, specifications, and operational requirements.

This position serves as an important link between field operations, contractors, the Help Desk, Control Room, Maintenance, Safety and other internal departments. The Field Inspector will identify deficiencies, monitor the quality and progress of work being performed, support safe site conditions, and ensure that issues are properly documented, communicated, and escalated when required.

The ideal candidate is observant, safety-conscious, organized, comfortable working independently in the field, and capable of communicating effectively with contractors and operational teams in a fast-paced transportation environment.

Key Responsibilities

- Conduct routine and scheduled inspections at stations, facilities, and other operational locations throughout the transit system.
- Monitor work being completed by contractors and service providers to ensure work is performed correctly and in accordance with approved specifications, procedures, contractual requirements, and applicable codes and standards.
- Inspect completed and ongoing work for quality, workmanship, functionality, cleanliness, and overall compliance.
- Identify deficiencies, incomplete work, unsafe conditions, operational concerns, or deviations from established requirements.
- Document inspection findings accurately, including observations, deficiencies, photographs, corrective actions, and follow-up requirements.
- Monitor contractor activities while on site and communicate concerns regarding workmanship, work practices, scheduling, safety, or site conditions.
- Verify that work areas are maintained in a safe condition and that appropriate safety practices and procedures are being followed.
- Immediately report or escalate significant safety hazards, operational risks, service impacts, or other urgent concerns to the appropriate department or management representative.
- Coordinate with the Help Desk and Control Room regarding reported issues, service requests, maintenance concerns, site conditions, and the status of work being completed.
- Assist with the verification and closure of work orders, service requests, deficiencies, and other reported field issues.
- Follow up on previously identified deficiencies to confirm that corrective actions have been completed appropriately.
- Support operational readiness by identifying conditions that could negatively impact station operations, passenger areas, equipment, infrastructure, or service delivery.




- Communicate professionally with contractors, maintenance personnel, operations staff, supervisors, and other stakeholders while conducting inspections.
- Maintain accurate inspection records, reports, checklists, photographs, and supporting documentation.
- Participate in meetings or discussions relating to recurring deficiencies, contractor performance, operational concerns, maintenance activities, or corrective actions.
- Provide field observations and recommendations to support continuous improvement of maintenance and operational practices.
- Follow all organizational health and safety policies, procedures, site rules, and applicable regulatory requirements.
- Perform additional field inspection, operational, or administrative duties as required.

Qualifications

- Valid G license in good standing
- Post-secondary education in a relevant discipline is considered an asset. Relevant areas of study may include engineering technology, construction, transportation, railway operations, facilities management, occupational health and safety, skilled trades, infrastructure, or a related field.
- Previous experience working within a railway, light rail transit (LRT), subway, public transportation, infrastructure, construction, maintenance, facilities, or similar operational environment is strongly considered an asset.
- Experience conducting inspections, monitoring contractors, assessing workmanship, identifying deficiencies, or working within a regulated or safety-sensitive environment is an asset.
- Familiarity with transit stations, railway infrastructure, maintenance operations, facilities, construction activities, or transportation systems is beneficial.
- General understanding of workplace health and safety practices and the ability to recognize potentially unsafe conditions.
- Knowledge of applicable codes, standards, specifications, drawings, maintenance requirements, or inspection procedures is considered an asset.
- Ability to read and interpret work orders, inspection requirements, procedures, technical information, drawings, or contractor documentation is an asset.
- Valid Ontario driver's license and ability to travel between multiple work locations may be required.

- Comfortable working in an active transit, railway, maintenance, or infrastructure environment.
- Basic computer proficiency and ability to use email, electronic work-order systems, inspection applications, Microsoft Office, or similar operational software.
- Ability to adapt to changing operational priorities and respond to unexpected field conditions.

Working Conditions

- Shift timings will range from days, evenings and nights dependent on management and operational needs
- Position requires frequent travel between stations and other operational sites.
- Work is primarily field-based and may involve walking for extended periods, climbing stairs, inspecting indoor and outdoor areas, and working around active maintenance or operational environments.
- The employee may be exposed to varying weather conditions, noise, construction activity, moving equipment, and other conditions typical of an active transportation system.
- Appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) must be worn where required. PPE is provided by the company
- Depending on operational requirements, occasional evening, weekend, emergency, or irregular-hour inspections may be required.

Preferred Experience

Candidates with previous experience in rail transportation, LRT systems, subway systems, transit operations, railway maintenance, station facilities, infrastructure inspection,

contractor oversight, construction inspection, or safety-sensitive operations will be particularly well suited for this position.

Experience working in an environment where multiple departments must coordinate to maintain safe and reliable transportation service—including Operations, Maintenance, Control Room personnel, Help Desk teams, contractors, and safety representatives—is considered a strong asset.
