Job Title: Hybrid Interaction/Visual Designer – Expert

Location: Toronto, ON

Duration: 12 Month Assignment

Description:

What will the designer be working on?

The designer will lead the squad’s design direction for the client acquisition experience. They will partner with cross-functional teams and stakeholders to shape the client experience, help define requirements, and connect design decisions to measurable business outcomes. This role does not just deliver screens. It sets the vision for how clients move through acquisition and holds the quality bar for the end-to-end experience.

What are the main responsibilities of the role?

The designer sits within a design squad (Interaction Designer, Visual Designer, Content Designer, and Design Researcher) and works daily with product owners, project managers, business analysts, developers, and QA. At the Expert level, they are expected to lead design thinking within the squad, influence roadmap and prioritization conversations, and align multiple stakeholders around a shared direction. They mentor peers, elevate the team's craft, and act as a trusted design voice with senior partners.

What capabilities makes the designer you’re replacing (or current designers on your team) successful?

A curious, strategic, and collaborative leader with an open mindset. They ignite design conversation by inviting feedback and turning it into direction. They are a self-starter with strong time management and presentation skills who can hold a room of senior stakeholders.

They are a skilled product designer who lives and breathes mobile-first and moves confidently across multiple complex projects at once. They ground decisions in research, validate hypotheses through testing, and produce work at the right fidelity to move each conversation forward, from early concept to build-ready. Throughout, they set direction and coach their cross-functional partners rather than wait for it.

What does the future state of success look like for the new designer?

Within three months, the designer has adapted to our ways of working and is delivering independently against tight timelines. They have deep command of the app's design system and patterns and use that fluency to work quick and consistently. They collaborate daily with their squad, operate with full autonomy, and navigate a large team environment with many cross-functional partners with ease.

Beyond delivery, they spot opportunities to improve how the team works, raise the craft bar for others, and drive those improvements forward with energy.

Qualifications:

What are the must have skills (4-5 max)?

- Deep digital product design expertise in an IXD / Visual Designer role across responsive web and native apps
- Advanced typography, visual hierarchy, and concepting skills,

with the judgment to set the quality bar for others
- Proven experience shaping and scaling complex design systems, not just working within them
- Fluency in Lean UX and leading design inside Agile dev teams
- Strong usability research skills, from framing hypotheses to synthesizing findings into direction

Nice to Have Skills:

- Track record leading design across large teams and many stakeholders (Product, Business, Technical)
- Deep experience crafting user journeys, wireframes, and information architecture at scale
- Advanced Figma skills, including componentization and design system contribution

What skills would you like to build within your team?

We are growing the team's depth in Full Stack Product Design, product strategy, data analysis, measurement frameworks, and experience metrics. At the Expert level, the designer is not just building these skills for themselves. They help raise the team's fluency in connecting design decisions to measurable outcomes, and they model how to move from craft to strategy and back. Someone who already brings strength in these areas and can coach others in them is exactly who we are looking for.
