About Us

When people ask what ESSE does, the short answer is water protection. We keep onsite wastewater systems performing so untreated effluent does not reach groundwater, wells, lakes and local waterways. That work protects drinking water, property value and the communities we serve.

We are a concierge environmental service company. We are not a pump-and-go operation. Since 2005 we have built Ontario’s leading practice in septic system performance management: inspections with photos, diagrams and clear recommendations; maintenance for standard and advanced treatment systems; sampling and optimization; and repairs done properly.

Customers, realtors and engineers trust us because the field work is thorough and the record is complete. This role is how we grow the next generation of technicians who can hold that standard.

About You

You are reliable, curious and happy to work with your hands. You would rather learn a proper method than guess. You are comfortable outdoors, you show up on time, and you treat a customer’s property the way you would treat your own.

- You want to be part of a team that makes a difference.
- You do not participate in gossip or negativity.
- You adapt well to change and take direction without defensiveness.
- You want to live in a cleaner, greener and more sustainable society.
- You figure out how to do the work properly, not who is to blame.
- You ask questions, listen, and write things down so the next person is not guessing.
- You treat the office team as colleagues whose day depends on the quality of your notes and photos.

No prior septic-industry experience is required. We will teach you the systems, the language and the standards. What we cannot teach is reliability, care and the willingness to learn in the field.

About the Job

ESSE Canada is hiring a Junior Field Service Technician on a six-month temporary contract based at our Brantford operations hub (416 Elgin Street). You work in the field — riding with experienced technicians, assisting on inspections and service visits, and capturing the photos and notes that make our quality work complete.

This role sits under the Maintenance Technician Manager. Dispatch and the Service Management Coordinator decide where the crew goes today. You do not sit the phones, book the board, or buy parts.

You help the technician already assigned to the job complete the work to ESSE standard, and you learn the method so you can progress toward unsupervised work.

The contract is built for the busy season. For the right person it is also a tryout: shadow, assist, documented sign-off, then more responsibility. Continued employment is possible; it is earned, not assumed.

What You Will Do:

Field support

- Ride along and assist experienced technicians on inspections, maintenance and service visits.
- Prepare sites, carry and stage equipment, and complete assigned hands-on tasks under direction.
- Travel between customer sites across our Ontario territories and work outdoors in all seasons.
- Present yourself as ESSE: uniform, vehicle, language with the customer, and respect for the property.
- Follow in-field SOPs and safety requirements. You do not invent a new method on the job site.

Documentation support — this is how the office and thesupporting team finish the job

- Take clear, complete photos of components, findings and completed work.
- Help record observations, measurements and service notes so the work order is usable without a phone call back to the field.
- Flag missing information before you leave the site. Incomplete notes create work for the Service Management Coordinator and delay the customer.

You may support special projects and other duties that help the crew and the company. You do not own live dispatch, parts purchasing, quoting or commercial sales.

What We Need

- Reliable, hardworking and eager to learn. You take instruction and ask when you do not know.
- Comfortable working outdoors in changing weather and being on your feet most of the day.
- Friendly, professional manner with residential and commercial customers.
- Explicit verbal and written communication. Photos and notes must be usable by someone who was not on site.
- Valid G driver’s licence and a clean driving record.

Willingness to travel from the Brantford hub across our service territories.
- Ability to lift and move equipment as part of ordinary field work, with reasonable accommodation available.
- Eligibility to work in Canada. A reliable way to start the day from Brantford.

Assets: trades, landscaping, farming, utilities, septic, plumbing or other outdoor practical work; comfort with phones and simple field apps; French; any manufacturer or safety tickets. A college diploma is not required. Compensation & Details

- Pay: competitive hourly rate based on relevant experience. Final rate confirmed with the offer (range: $21-$25/hour)
- Job type: six-month temporary contract. Potential conversion to ongoing employment based on performance, skills progression and business need.
- Schedule: Monday to Friday field days, typically starting from the Brantford yard. Overtime as required during peak season. Occasional early starts.
- Additional: overtime pay; company vehicle or travel arrangements as assigned; PPE and uniform provided. Contract roles do not automatically include the full permanent benefit package; details confirmed with the offer.

Why This Kind of Work In this role you are in the field doing the work that keeps systems performing and the record complete — learning from technicians who already know how ESSE does it. This is not an office job and it is not a dispatch job. The Service Management Coordinator keeps the board, the parts and the customer line moving. You make their job possible by leaving every site with usable notes, usable photos and work done to standard.

Join a growing, hands-on company that takes pride in doing septic the right way: modern equipment, strong systems, and a team that helps each other. Do work with a clear public purpose: protecting groundwater, local waterways and the properties in our care.

How to Apply

Send your resume and a short note on why this work interests you — not a generic cover letter. Tell us you want to learn how to do this properly. Tell us about a time you learned a practical skill by watching, asking and then doing.

ESSE Canada welcomes applications from all qualified people.

Pay: $21.00-$25.00 per hour

Expected hours: 30.0 – 40.0 per week

Benefits

- Casual dress
- On-site parking
- Paid time off
