Salary: $80,000-$100,000+ depending on experience and year of call A well-established Hamilton law firm is looking to add an Insurance Defence Lawyer to its litigation team.
This is a strong opportunity for a lawyer with a few years of insurance defence experience who is ready to take ownership of their files while continuing to work alongside experienced counsel.
The firm has a long-standing presence in the Hamilton legal community and a busy litigation practice representing a range of clients in insurance and civil litigation matters. Responsibilities:
You will manage your own caseload and work on a variety of insurance defence matters from the early stages of a file through resolution.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Managing insurance defence litigation files independently
- Conducting examinations for discovery
- Attending mediations and pre-trial conferences
- Preparing for and attending motions
- Handling LAT case conferences and/or hearings
- Drafting pleadings, motions, correspondence and other litigation materials
- Working closely with senior counsel on larger or more complex matters
- Communicating directly with clients, opposing counsel and other parties throughout the litigation process
Qualifications:
The ideal candidate will have:
- Approximately 2-4 years of insurance defence experience
- Membership in good standing with the Law Society of Ontario
- Experience independently managing litigation files
- Hands-on experience with discoveries, mediations, pre-trials and motions
- Experience with LAT proceedings
- Strong written and oral advocacy skills
- The ability to manage competing deadlines and maintain ownership of a busy caseload
- Small Claims Court experience is considered an asset
