- Annual Salary Range: $90,944 - $113,681 (based on 40 hour work week)• Payment in Lieu of Benefits (for contracts over 12 months)• Employee Assistance Program• Eligibility to participate in the OMERS pension plan• Paid time off, including vacation and incidental days (for contracts over 6 months)• Employee perks/discounts: Discount on Active Living Pass and Perkopolis• Flexible work arrangements, including hybrid work options and participation in the Town’s compressed work-week program (for eligible positions)Position SummaryUnder the direct supervision of the Supervisor, Licensing & Enforcement Compliance the Municipal Law Enforcement Officer (MLEO) is responsible for enforcement and administration of all municipal and regulatory by-laws including but not limited to the Town’s property standards, community standards, business licensing, and parking by-laws.Major Job ResponsibilitiesKey ResponsibilitiesInvestigates and identifies by-law infractionsCreates, opens and updates electronic investigation filesProvides assistance and information regarding general parking regulations,
patrols and enforcementWorks closely with other municipal departments and agenciesPrepares compliance documentation for violations including notices, orders and investigative reportsServes notices stating specific defects to property owners/occupants and advises or remedial measures required to comply with the Town legislationResearches and assists with drafting of current by-laws, legislation and proceduresObtains necessary documentation for prosecutionInitiates legal proceedingsPrepares court/hearing files, attends court/hearings, tribunal hearings and presents evidence regarding violations of all municipal by-laws and actsIssues Part 1, Part 2, Part 3 Provincial Offences Act notices and summonsesIssues penalty notices under the Town’s Administrative Penalty SystemPatrols and responds to complaints and requests for enforcement of parking prohibitions throughout the Town of Milton, including Regional Roads and private propertiesConducts vehicle and foot patrols for on/off street parking violations and park patrolsPatrols assigned areas, responds to, and documents all inquiries and complaints from the public, law enforcement agenciesCoordinates towing of unauthorized vehicles in accordance with Halton Regional Police and Tow PoliciesEducation & ExperienceSkills and QualificationsCertificate/diploma in Police Studies/ Foundations, Law & Security, Justice & Administration or related fieldMinimum two (2)
years’ experience of enforcing regulatory by-laws.Experience interpreting by-laws and provincial legislation pertaining to municipal law enforcement and licensingAbility to obtain the Ontario Association of Property Standards certification within 3 yearsAbility to obtain Municipal Law Enforcement Officer Certified designation within three (3) yearsSuccessful completion of OAPSO Level 1 training and Part 1 MLEOA Foundations training is preferredA valid Ontario Driver’s License Class G with a satisfactory driving recordKnowledge of Provincial Offences Act, municipal by-laws, enforcement processes and court proceduresStrong problem solving skills and proven ability to resolve disputes in a manner that supports a high level of customer serviceProficient in Windows based software including Word, Outlook, Excel in addition to Amanda and parking control softwareSatisfactory Criminal Record checkNote to ApplicantsThis posting is for an existing job vacancy.The Town is an equal opportunity employer, committed to fostering a diverse, inclusive, accessible, and respectful workplace.
