Overview
Our Edmonton-based client is seeking a highly experienced Network Security Consultant / Cisco-Meraki SME to lead the assessment, redesign, and remediation of a complex enterprise network environment. This role requires a hands-on consultant who can quickly evaluate the current state, identify risks and technical debt, develop a practical future-state architecture, and help execute the required improvements.
This is not a documentation-heavy architecture role. The successful consultant will be expected to move rapidly from discovery and design into implementation while working closely with internal technical stakeholders.
Responsibilities
- Perform a thorough assessment of the existing network environment and architecture
- Evaluate current Cisco Meraki infrastructure, configurations, and design decisions
- Identify network, security, operational, and scalability risks
- Review current segmentation strategy and recommend improvements
- Assess and remediate IT and OT network separation concerns
- Design and implement VLAN, routing, and access-control improvements
- Develop practical, future-state network architecture and implementation roadmap
- Lead remediation activities and support execution of approved changes
- Collaborate with internal technical resources and stakeholders throughout the engagement
- Provide knowledge transfer and guidance to internal team members
- Assist in establishing network governance, standards, and best practices
Required Experience
- 10+ years of progressive network infrastructure experience
- Proven experience as a Network Architect, Senior Network Consultant, or Network SME
- Strong Cisco networking expertise
- Deep hands-on experience with Cisco Meraki environments
- Experience conducting network assessments and architecture reviews
- Solid knowledge of network segmentation, security zones, and access controls
- Experience designing and implementing VLAN strategies
- Experience troubleshooting and remediating complex network environments
- Strong understanding of routing, switching, firewalls, and enterprise networking principles
- Ability to develop practical architecture recommendations and execute implementation activities
- Experience working directly with technical and business stakeholders
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with network modernization or transformation initiatives
- Experience remediating environments with significant technical debt
- Exposure to OT, surveillance, physical security, or operational technology environments
- Experience with multi-site enterprise environments
- Ubiquiti wireless networking experience
- Relevant Cisco certifications (CCNP, CCIE, or equivalent) considered an asset
