Job Summary
Smile Studio Dental is a multi-provider practice in Markham: one general dentist, an endodontist, a periodontist, and a paediatric dentist.
We are hiring a Level II dental assistant who is comfortable in a surgical operatory and wants to build real experience in sedation and anaesthesia support.
What you will do
- Chairside assisting for general, restorative and surgical dentistry, including implant placement, grafting and surgical extractions
- Assist in endodontic, periodontal and paediatric appointments as scheduled
- Take intraoral and extraoral radiographs in accordance with HARP requirements
- Support IV sedation and general anaesthesia appointments: pre-op preparation and instructions, assisting the anaesthesiologist as directed, recovery observation, and discharge instructions to the patient's escort
- Help maintain the sedation and anaesthesia setup, including emergency drug and equipment checks, oxygen and monitoring equipment, and the required logs
- Set up and turn over operatories, prepare surgical trays and maintain a sterile field
- Reprocess and sterilize instruments in line with the RCDSO Standard of Practice on infection prevention and control and Public Health Ontario IPAC best practices, including chemical and biological indicator monitoring, spore testing and record keeping
- Take intraoral scans and clinical photographs and keep patient records current in ClearDent
- Track and reorder clinical and surgical supplies
- Coordinate with the front desk on scheduling, treatment sequencing and surgical follow-ups
What you need
- Level II dental assisting certification valid for practice in Ontario,
with all required certification examinations completed and passed
- HARP certification to expose dental radiographs in Ontario
- Current CPR (Level C) and first aid certification
- Working knowledge of the RCDSO infection prevention and control standard and the Public Health Ontario IPAC best practice documents that support it, including reprocessing, hand hygiene, PPE and routine practices
- Willingness to take part in IPAC audits, self-assessment checklists and corrective action when gaps are found
- Accuracy and composure in a surgical operatory, and the judgment to anticipate what the dentist needs next
- Clear, calm communication with patients who are anxious about surgery, sedation or anaesthesia, and with parents of young patients
Assets
- Experience with ClearDent
- Prior experience assisting with implant surgery, bone grafting, IV sedation or general anaesthesia
- Current ACLS or PALS certification
- Paediatric assisting experience
- Intraoral scanning experience

Pay: $28.00-$30.00 per hour
