About the Client:

We're seeking a compassionate caregiver for an 80-year-old gentleman experiencing significant cognitive decline and signs of Alzheimer's disease. He lives with his daughter's family in a beautiful home in Oakville, sharing the downstairs floor with his wife. While he can physically walk with a cane and handle basic personal care like bathing and toileting independently, he has lost the ability to initiate tasks or complete activities without direct assistance and supervision.

He's a pleasant, kind person who remains in good spirits despite his confusion, though he can no longer track time, hold conversations, or engage in activities without someone actively guiding him. He requires constant supervision and cannot be left alone safely.

Responsibilities:

- Provide engaging companionship and supervision during 2-hour visits
- Actively engage him in cognitive activities: word searches, puzzles, card games, dominoes, simple trivia, and memory exercises
- Ensure medication adherence by physically handing him his pre-organized pills and water
- Assist with light meal support by reheating prepared food and ensuring he eats
- Take him on short supervised walks around the neighborhood for physical activity and fresh air
- Encourage phone calls with friends and family to maintain social connections
- Provide mobility support and transfer assistance as needed while he moves around with his cane
- Keep a log of daily activities, observations, and any concerns about his condition
- Offer respite support for his wife, who is the primary caregiver and needs regular breaks

What We're Looking For:

- Experience with Alzheimer's disease and dementia care
- Patient, warm personality who can make him feel comfortable and bring positive energy




- Strong initiative to actively engage rather than passively supervise
- Excellent communication skills with the family
- Understanding that he requires hand-over-hand guidance for most tasks
- Ability to recognize he won't initiate activities independently and needs constant prompting
- English-speaking
- Reliable and consistent presence

Schedule:

Monday through Friday, 2 hours per day (10 hours per week total). Adaptable timing, though afternoons are preferred as mornings often involve medical appointments. Start date as soon as possible, ideally within the next 1-2 weeks.

Pay & Hours

CAD$27.00/hr
