The Pharmacy Technician
Lead, Inventory Control is responsible for maintaining the accuracy and integrity of pharmacy inventory by ensuring alignment between book and physical inventory and identifying and addressing the root causes of discrepancies. The position provides leadership in inventory, and contracting processes by identifying opportunities for workflow improvement, implementing and evaluating process changes, and ensuring medications are appropriately contracted to support medication availability, cost effectiveness, and operational efficiency. This is a temporary 6 month contract position.
Ensure the accuracy and integrity of pharmacy inventory by maintaining alignment between book and physical inventory, monitoring inventory discrepancies, identifying trends, and implementing corrective actions to minimize recurring variances, waste, and financial loss. Identify operational workflows and processes contributing to inventory challenges and collaborate with pharmacy leadership and relevant stakeholders to develop, implement, standardize, and evaluate improved processes and controls. Monitor the pharmacy formulary to ensure medications are appropriately contracted and available under established agreements.
Identify medications requiring contract action and initiate or coordinate the appropriate processes to obtain contracts or alternative purchasing arrangements. Monitor inventory levels, purchasing patterns, utilization, shortages, excess inventory, and medication expiry to identify opportunities to optimize inventory, reduce waste and costs, and maintain appropriate medication availability. Analyze inventory and formulary data to identify trends, risks, and opportunities for improvement; provide recommendations and regular updates to the Manager, Pharmacy Operations and Medication Distribution; and serve as a subject matter resource for pharmacy inventory control and related processes.
Licensed by OCP, education obtained from an accredited Pharmacy technician program (CCAPP accredited = Canadian Council for Accreditation of Pharmacy Programs). ~5 years experience as a Registered Pharmacy Technician in a hospital required ~5 years experience working with inventory control preferred ~3 years experience working with pharmacy automation systems preferred ~ Knowledge of inventory workflows from procurement to dispensing in a hospital setting ~ Knowledge of controlled substance discrepancy investigations and their reporting requirements ~ Familiarity with Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook,
