Single Source Project Management Inc. (SSPM) is seeking an experienced Pipe Layer to join our civil construction team. This position is suited to a safety-focused individual with practical field experience installing, repairing, and working around underground piping systems.

The successful candidate will work as part of a civil crew and will be responsible for assisting with excavation, pipe installation, grading, bedding, alignment, backfilling, and related civil construction activities.

Travel to various project locations may be required.

Key Responsibilities

- Install and assemble underground pipe and related fittings.
- Assist with excavation and preparation of pipe trenches.
- Prepare and inspect pipe bedding and installation areas.
- Set, align, grade, and connect pipe according to drawings, specifications, and supervisor direction.
- Assist with sewer, storm, water, culvert, drainage, and other underground utility installations.
- Use hand tools and power tools safely.
- Work around excavators, loaders, skid steers, hydrovacs, trucks, and other heavy equipment.
- Perform pipe measurements, elevations, and grade checks.
- Assist with laser levels and other grade/alignment equipment where required.
- Ensure pipe joints, connections, and installations are properly completed.
- Assist with manholes, catch basins, culverts, and related structures.
- Assist with backfilling and compaction operations.
- Maintain proper housekeeping around the work area.
- Participate in FLHAs, toolbox meetings, safety meetings, and pre-job planning.
- Identify and report hazards to the Foreman or Supervisor.
- Follow SSPM safety procedures, client requirements, and applicable legislation.
- Complete required field documentation.
- Protect existing underground utilities and infrastructure.
- Perform other duties associated with civil construction as required.





Safety Responsibilities Safety is a condition of employment at SSPM.

The Pipe Layer is expected to:

- Complete and participate in the FLHA before beginning work.
- Understand the hazards associated with excavation and underground work.
- Follow ground-disturbance and excavation requirements.
- Maintain safe distances from operating equipment.
- Use appropriate PPE.
- Maintain awareness of changing ground conditions.
- Report unsafe conditions, damaged equipment, and hazards immediately.
- Stop and communicate when conditions change or controls are no longer effective.
- Follow all site-specific and client safety requirements.

Qualifications and Experience

Required:

- Previous pipe-laying or civil construction experience.
- Experience with trenching and excavation.
- Understanding of underground utility installation.
- Ability to work safely around heavy equipment.
- Ability to read basic construction drawings and understand grades/elevations.
- Physically capable of performing manual field work.
- Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
- Reliable attendance and transportation.
- Strong safety awareness.
- Ability to work effectively as part of a crew.
- CSTS 2020
- WHMIS 2015
- Ground Disturbance Lv II

Preferred:

- Experience with sewer and water installation.
- Storm drainage experience.
- Culvert installation experience.
- Manhole and catch-basin installation.
- Experience using a pipe laser or grade laser.
- Experience working around hydrovacs.
- First Aid.
- Equipment operating experience.





Skills That Will Be Given Additional Consideration SSPM values individuals who can contribute beyond the basic Pipe Layer role. Additional consideration may be given to candidates with experience operating:
- Skid steers
- Loaders
- Excavators
- Mini excavators
- Telehandlers
- Compaction equipment
- Hydrovac equipment
- Other civil construction equipment

Working Conditions This is a field-based position. The successful candidate should be prepared to:

- Work outdoors for extended periods.
- Work around heavy equipment and construction traffic.
- Work in trenches and excavation areas where properly authorized and controlled.
- Lift and handle construction materials.
- Kneel, bend, climb, walk, and stand for extended periods.
- Work varying shifts depending on project requirements.
- Travel to project locations when required.
