Title: Project Director, Mining Flotation Project
Duration: 12 Months
Location: Longueuil, QC
Position Summary The Project Director is accountable for the overall leadership, governance, execution, and successful delivery of a major mining flotation project from engineering through commissioning and operational handover. This role provides strategic direction across all project functions, including engineering, procurement, construction, commissioning, project controls, commercial management, health and safety, and stakeholder engagement.
The Project
Director will ensure the project is delivered safely, on schedule, within budget, and in accordance with quality, environmental, and operational performance objectives.
Key Responsibilities
- Project Leadership & Governance
- Provide overall leadership and direction for a multi-disciplinary project team.
- Establish and maintain project governance, reporting, and decision-making frameworks.
- Act as the primary point of accountability to executive sponsors and client leadership.
- Drive a culture of safety, accountability, collaboration, and performance excellence.
- Lead project reviews, steering committees, and executive reporting forums.
- Project Delivery
- Oversee all project phases, including:
- Feasibility and detailed engineering
- Procurement and contract management
- Construction execution
- Commissioning and start-up
- Operational readiness and handover
- Ensure integration across owners, EPCM contractors, engineering consultants, equipment suppliers, and construction contractors.
- Manage scope, schedule, budget, risks, and change control processes.
- Drive project execution strategies to meet production and business objectives.
- Commercial & Financial Management
- Accountable for project CAPEX performance and financial forecasting.
- Monitor project cost, productivity, contingency utilization, and cash flow.
- Lead commercial negotiations and contract governance.
- Manage claims, disputes, and commercial risk mitigation strategies.
- Health, Safety, Environment & Quality (HSEQ)
- Champion a zero-harm safety culture across the project.
- Ensure compliance with all regulatory, environmental, and corporate requirements.
- Monitor contractor performance and HSEQ metrics.
- Lead investigations and corrective actions related to major project issues.
- Stakeholder Management
- Build trusted relationships with executive sponsors, site leadership, operations teams, regulators, Indigenous communities, and external stakeholders.
- Align project objectives with broader business and operational priorities.
- Facilitate communication and issue resolution among key stakeholders.
- Risk & Performance Management
- Maintain comprehensive project risk and opportunity management processes.
- Ensure mitigation plans are in place for critical project risks.
- Identify opportunities to improve project outcomes through innovation, digital tools,
and execution excellence.
- Drive achievement of project KPIs and milestone commitments.
Qualifications
- Education
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Mining Engineering, Metallurgy, Construction Management, or related discipline.
- Skilled Engineer (P.Eng.) designation preferred.
- Experience
- 15 years of experience delivering large capital projects within mining, metals, or heavy industrial environments.
- Proven experience leading major mineral processing projects, preferably flotation concentrators, concentrator expansions, or brownfield upgrades.
- Experience managing projects valued at $250M to $1B.
- Strong understanding of:
- Flotation circuits
- Comminution and grinding systems
- Tailings management interfaces
- Concentrator operations
- Commissioning and operational readiness
- Experience managing EPCM or EPC contracting models.
