Public Works Supervisor – Role Summary The Public Works Supervisor is responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operation and maintenance of municipal infrastructure, roads, equipment, and public works services for the Township. This position provides leadership to public works staff while ensuring services are delivered safely, efficiently, and in compliance with municipal policies and applicable regulations.

JOB SPECIFICATIONS/QUALIFICATIONS

- Post-Secondary diploma or degree in Civil Engineering technology or related field with a C.E.T. designation or equivalent
- Certification of Ontario Roads Supervisors and all the courses that lead to gaining certification through O.G.R.A
- Well-rounded knowledge in all road related maintenance both summer and winter asphalt and gravel.
- Knowledge of storm water management, tree maintenance
- 5 years management/supervisorial experience – multiple years field and equipment experience
- Knowledge of municipal operations including public works, waste management, land use infrastructure, and emergency services.

· Possess a high level of initiative and judgement when dealing with the affairs and operations of the municipality and when acting as the main policy advisor to Council. · Ability to analyze and resolve municipal policy and financial issues and provide council with thorough and sound advice.

· Strategic thinking skills with the ability to manage the preparation of plans, policies, reports, and studies.

· Excellent written and oral communication skills and presentation skills.

· In terms of service delivery, an ability to identify, understand, and meet/exceed requirements of internal and external clients including project/time management, analytical/critical thinking, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.





- Excellent organizational skills and ability to prioritize and handle multiple assignments and deadlines
- High energy and a passionate commitment to the goals of the Township and the ability/willingness to adapt as those goals as needs evolve.
- Strong interpersonal skills to manage a broad range of relationships with care, to read situations well, and to treat others with respect and humility.
- Processing superb judgement, impeccable integrity, and the maturity to handle sensitive information with care and confidentiality.
- High proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint) as well as computer software such as GIS, Microsoft Office, PSD-City Wide considered an asset.
- Demonstrated ability to be a team player who can establish effective working relationships with Administration and Council as well as other employees and the general public.
- Ability to remain calm in fast-pace and/or crowded environments.
- Experience in resolving complaints, detecting incidents, and finding solutions.

· Candidates should have access to reliable transportation and have and maintain a valid Class “G” Driver’s License. · Class DZ license is an asset

WORKING CONDITIONS

- Work is generally performed in a normal office environment during regular working hours (8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday to Friday). Extra time may be required for committee work and/or to complete tasks and meet deadlines during certain times of the year.
- Exposure to physical hazards and related stress including contrasting weather conditions, machine heat, oils, paints, and other chemicals; noise and unpredictable traffic.
- Overtime may be required and/or working for extended hours. Should be available for work 7 days a week as required
- Some work may be confidential in nature and requires discretion.
- Ability to work for long periods of time at a computer terminal.
- Work schedule is subject to shifting priorities of Council, changing Councils and deadlines imposed by legislation or municipal policy, and which may require work beyond the regular work schedule to meet deadlines and attend meetings.
- Handle frequent interruptions and deadlines.
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees, elected officials and members of the public.




- Must be physically capable of performing a wide variety of physical tasks.
- Use of Personal Protection Equipment will be required (e.g. hard-hat, safety boots, glasses etc.).
- Regularly works near moving mechanical parts and in outside conditions that include inclement weather.

WORKING RELATIONSHIPS

- Reports to the Town Manager/Clerk as well as works in collaboration with the Departments of Finance, Community, and Corporate Services.
- External liaises regularly with other municipalities, provincial ministries/agencies, consultants, media and the public.
- Supports the Town Manager/Clerk and Treasurer in developing and annual operating and business plans including performance objectives for Corporate Services.
- Works collaboratively with Economic Development Officer as related to Public Works, Infrastructure development, and grants for the Township of Pickle Lake and Pickle Lake area.
- Participates in the Emergency Planning Committee to help develop and plan public and community investment, development projects and services.
- The PWS provides leadership and mentorship for (2-4) full-time and (2-3) seasonal summer student employees and is responsible to oversee all schedule work within the department monitoring staff; communicating departmental objective based on direction of Council; managing staff schedules and related external services; overseeing general staffing issues including scheduling, assigning and monitoring work; and determining training and development needs.
- Trains staff on the use of safe and proper working procedures and practices, proper care and maintenance of tools and equipment; works in compliance with, and ensure staff is knowledgeable of and in compliance with the Occupational Health and Safety Act, WHMIS, applicable legislation regulation, statutes, departmental policies/procedures/practices, operational guidelines, and perform safe work practices.
- Oversees a departmental budget for Public Works of approximately, $1.19 million.
- Helps to oversee grant funding annual budgets ranging between $300,000 to $500,000.

Base Salary Range: $ 83,200 to 104,000.00 per year Resumes with cover letter will remain opened until filled.
