Position Overview:

Director, Government Affairs — Ontario

B&A is looking for a Director to lead priority client files across Ontarios public sector landscape, from economic development, to defence and technology, to healthcare. This is a leadership role for someone ready to shape strategy and build something within a firm thats growing fast.

Youll work closely with our AVP Government Affairs to both support their files, as well as execute and set the direction for your files. That means developing high-impact written materials, leading stakeholder engagement, activating your political network, and identifying opportunities for clients before anyone else sees them coming.

• Accountability for a portfolio of client accounts
• Direct client relationships, with the autonomy to bring your own network and book of business into the firm
• A seat at the table on firm strategy and growth, not just delivery

File Ownership, Execution,



and Client Relations

• Lead a portfolio of client files while also playing a central role in advancing the AVP Government Affairs files, ensuring their priority accounts are consistently well-supported, well-prepared, and moving forward
• Own the strategic direction and day-to-day advancement of your files, setting priorities, troubleshooting bottlenecks, and ensuring consistent forward momentum
• Translate direction from the AVP and senior leadership into clear workplans, and set direction independently on files you own
• Lead the development of high-quality materials such as briefing notes, decks, letters, and committee testimony, bringing sharp insight tailored to political and industry audiences, for both your own files and those you support
• Build and own client relationships on your files, and strengthen client trust on shared files through strategic counsel, responsiveness, and quality of execution
• Ensure a high standard of file management across your portfolio and the files you support

Government Engagement

• Design and execute government engagement strategies, directing outreach to political offices, public servants, and key stakeholders across the provincial and federal landscape
• Bring and continue to build a strong network of decision-makers, using deep insight into stakeholder dynamics and government processes to inform timing, positioning, and approach
• Translate legislative, regulatory, and political developments into actionable strategy for client files, identifying risks, opportunities, and moments for engagement

Strategic Support to Leadership

• Translate high-level direction from the AVP into clear, executable plans, shaping how client files are advanced on a day-to-day basis
• Anticipate needs ahead of key meetings, announcements, and deadlines, proactively identifying risks, opportunities, and required inputs to ensure leadership is consistently prepared and positioned
• Act as a connective layer across files, ensuring alignment between client expectations, strategic objectives, and on-the-ground execution
• Provide informed input into file strategy and positioning, drawing on political awareness and client context to strengthen overall approach and outcomes

Profile

• 5+ years of experience in government, politics, or consulting environments
• Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university
• Experience within the Government of Ontario, with an existing network across political staff, public service, or relevant stakeholder ecosystem strongly preferred
• Strong understanding of Ontario’s political and policy landscape, including how decisions are made and implemented at Queen’s Park
• Strong political judgment and instincts, with the ability to assess timing, risk, and stakeholder dynamics
• Exceptional written and verbal communication skills; ability to synthesise complex issues into clear, actionable insights
• Sound judgment and discretion when handling sensitive information and relationships
• Management consulting experience welcome but not required

Compensation & Benefits
