Technology Role Overview

We are seeking an experienced Lead Cloud Software Developer to design, build, and support secure, scalable, highly available, and resilient real-time payment systems. The ideal candidate will bring deep expertise in AWS serverless technologies, event-driven architecture, cloud-native application development, and GitHub-based DevOps practices. Primary Focus

This role is responsible for delivering mission-critical solutions across real-time payment networks and modern banking ecosystems, including: Real-Time Payments (RTP) Open Banking integrations ISO 20022-based payment ecosystems Core Capabilities

The position requires a strong understanding of distributed systems, cloud architecture, API development, CI/CD automation, security, resiliency, and operational excellence within a regulated financial services environment. Drives the overall software development lifecycle including working across functional teams to transform requirements into features, managing development teams and processes, and conducting software testing and maintenance. Specific project areas of focus includes translating user requirements into technical specifications, writing code and managing the preparation of design specifications. Supports system design, provides advice on security requirements and debugs business systems and service applications. Applies deep knowledge of algorithms, data structures and programming languages to develop high quality technology applications and services - including tools, standards, and relevant software platforms based on business requirements. Translates user needs into technical specifications by understanding, conceptualizing, and facilitating technical requirements from user. Analyzes, develops, tests, and implements current software programs, and documentation of entire software development life cycle execution. Performs preventative and corrective maintenance, troubleshooting and fault rectification of system and core software components. Ensures that code/configurations adhere to the security, logging, error handling, and performance standards and non-functional requirements. Evaluates new technologies for fit with the program/system/eco-system and the associated upstream and downstream impacts on process, data, and risk. Follows release management processes and standards and applies version controls. Assists in interpreting and documentation of client requirements. Focus is primarily on business/group within BMO; may have broader, enterprise-wide focus. Provides specialized consulting, analytical and technical support. Exercises judgment to identify, diagnose, and solve problems within given rules. Works independently and regularly handles non-routine situations. Broader work or accountabilities may be assigned as needed. protect assets, and adhere to applicable policy documents (Frameworks, Policies, Standards, Procedures and Supporting documents), laws and regulations. Key Responsibilities

Cloud Native Development: Design and develop cloud-native applications using AWS Serverless services. Build event-driven, loosely coupled microservices supporting real-time payment processing. Implement secure REST APIs and asynchronous messaging solutions. Develop highly resilient payment services with sub-second processing requirements. Optimize application performance, scalability, and reliability. AWS Serverless Engineering

Develop solutions using: AWS Lambda, Amazon API Gateway, AWS EventBridge, Amazon SQS, Amazon SNS, AWS Step Functions, Amazon DynamoDB, Amazon Aurora PostgreSQL, AWS CloudWatch, AWS Secrets Manager, AWS Systems Manager Parameter Store, AWS KMS, AWS WAF. Real-Time Payments

Develop integrations for RTP, SWIFT, ACH, and ISO 20022 payment processing. Implement payment orchestration and transaction lifecycle management. Design solutions supporting: High availability, Active-active architectures, Fault tolerance, Disaster recovery, Regulatory compliance. DevOps & GitHub

Implement CI/CD pipelines using GitHub Actions. Build Infrastructure as Code (IaC) using AWS CDK. Automate testing, deployment, monitoring, and rollback processes. Manage source code repositories, branch strategies, pull requests, and release governance. Operational Excellence

Participate in production support and incident resolution. Conduct root cause analysis and problem management activities. Implement observability using logs, metrics, traces, and dashboards. Support chaos engineering and resiliency testing initiatives. Required Experience

5-7+ years of software development and relevant experience and post-secondary degree in related field of study or an equivalent combination of education and experience. 3+ years of AWS cloud development experience. 2+ years of serverless architecture experience. Experience working within financial services, payments, fintech, or banking. Experience building event-driven architectures and distributed systems. Experience with mission-critical, high-volume transaction systems. Required Technical Skills

AWS Services: Compute & Integration (AWS Lambda, API Gateway, EventBridge, SNS, SQS, Step Functions) Data Services: DynamoDB, ElastiCache Redis Security: AWS IAM, KMS, Secrets Manager Monitoring: CloudWatch, X-Ray, OpenTelemetry Development Skills: Languages (Python, TypeScript, Node.js), API Development (REST APIs, OpenAPI/Swagger, OAuth2, JWT, Microservices), Databases (DynamoDB NoSQL, Design SQL Optimization) GitHub & DevOps: Required experience with GitHub Enterprise, GitHub Actions,



GitHub Copilot, Branch Protection Policies, Pull Request Reviews, CI/CD Automation, Infrastructure as Code, AWS CDK Recommended AI Skills (Preferred)

Candidates with AI-assisted development experience will be highly preferred. Generative AI Development Experience with: GitHub Copilot, OpenAI APIs, AWS Bedrock, Prompt Engineering, AI-Assisted Engineering, AI-powered code generation, AI-assisted unit test creation, Code review automation, Documentation generation, Technical design generation, DevOps automation using AI, AI Platform Knowledge Understanding of: Amazon Bedrock AI Security and Governance, AI Use Cases Experience implementing: Intelligent Payment Operations, Incident Root Cause Analysis, Log Analysis using AI, Fraud Detection, Support Application Support, Chatbots, Knowledge Management Solutions Preferred Experience
