Position Overview
We are seeking an Experienced Senior Bookkeeper to join our public practice team in Lumby, BC. Located just 20 minutes east of Vernon, this role is a dynamic blend of full-cycle bookkeeping for a diverse group of clients, basic personal tax (T1) preparation, and essential administrative support.
The ideal candidate thrives working independently while remaining a collaborative, supportive member of our overall team. You must be highly sensitive to firm and statutory deadlines and possess an exception eye for detail to ensure client files are flawless.
Because this position requires front-end client interaction, e-filing, and physical document preparation, it is a fully on-site role. Candidates must have reliable personal transportation to get to and from our office in Lumby.
Please note: This position focuses entirely on bookkeeping and tax compliance up to the ledger trial balance. It does not involve corporate tax return (T2) or year-end working paper file preparation.
Key Responsibilities
- Full-Cycle Bookkeeping: Independently manage and execute full-cycle accounting,
bank ledger reconciliations, and credit card reconciliation for a diverse portfolio of corporate clients using QBO, Xero, and Sage 50.
- Payroll preparation: Accurately calculate and process regular client payrolls, manage source deductions and issue T4/T4A/T5 slips.
- Tax & Compliance: Prepare basic personal income tax returns (T1s) using TaxCycle during tax season. Handle regular corporate filings including sales tax (GST/PST), payroll source deductions, and T4/T5 slips.
- Tax Administration: Coordinate the electronic filing (e-filing) of authorized personal and corporate tax returns and follow up with clients for signatures (T183s).
- Client Deliverables: Assemble, collate, and bind client materials and financial statement packages to skilled presentation standards.
- Front-End Client Contact: Serve as a welcoming first point of contact, greeting local clients, handling incoming phone calls, and managing document intake and drop-offs.
Qualifications & Skills
- Experience: 3 to 5+ years of recent experience within a Canadian Public Practice CPA firm or high-volume bookkeeping environment is strictly required.
- Core Competencies: Proven experience preparing Canadian T1 personal tax returns and a strong comfort level with front-facing administrative duties.
- Software Tech: Advanced, daily proficiency with Xero, Sage 50, QuickBooks Online (QBO), TaxCycle and Microsoft Office (specifically Excel and Outlook).
- Transportation:
Must possess a valid driver’s license and reliable personal transportation for the daily commute to Lumby.
- Professionalism: Exceptional communication skills for front-end client care, sharp organizational skills, and high attention to detail for binding and collating client files.
