As a Cellar Assistant, you will support the Fermentation and Production Manager in the day-to-day operations of Heeman’s Cellar. You will assist with the production of beverages including hard cider, mead and non-alcoholic beverages, while ensuring the cellar, equipment and work areas are maintained in a clean, safe and organized manner.
Heeman’s Cellar is under the umbrella of Heeman’s Strawberries and has been making award-winning cider and meads since 2019.
Responsibilities:
- Contribute to the overall success of Heeman’s Cellar by supporting production activities and exhibiting a positive attitude and positive work habits.
- Assist with fermentation activities including additions, racking, filtering, blending and carbonation under the direction of the Fermentation and Production Manager.
- Assist with the monitoring and care of tanks and barrels.
- Assist with production and preparation of beverages for bottling, canning and kegging.
- Operate and assist with cellar and production equipment as trained.
- Assist with the movement of product, ingredients, packaging materials and equipment throughout the facility.
- Assist with receiving, organizing and storing supplies and production materials.
- Assist with inventory counts and maintaining an organized production area.
- Complete production tasks and follow blending, fermentation and packaging plans as directed.
- Maintain cleanliness and organization of the cellar, production areas and equipment, including cleaning tanks, hoses, tools and other production equipment.
- Follow all cleaning and sanitation procedures to ensure the facility and equipment meet food safety and quality standards.
- Assist with cellar maintenance and other projects as required.
- Support production associates and other Heeman’s Cellar team members when needed.
- Work in compliance with all human resources, operational (SOP) and Food, Health & Safety policies and procedures.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills & Personal Attributes
- Excellent time management skills and ability to manage frequent interruptions
- Ability to work independently
- Detail oriented
- Adaptability to a continuously changing work environment
Education, Experience & Language
- 1-2 years of experience in a brewery, cidery, winery or similar environment is required
- Language: English (written and oral)
- Forklift Experience is an asset
- Experience working at heights is an asset
About Working at Heeman’s Cellar:
No two days are the same at Heeman’s Cellar, keeping things interesting and exciting. As a busy cidery we have seasonal peaks (Fall) with high production turnover rates, and we are open year-round with many projects on the go. The environment in the cidery can be cold and wet and you’ll need to be comfortable going up and down ladders, standing for long periods and being capable of lifting up to 50lbs.You’ll need to be self-motivated and enjoy working with your hands in a fast-paced.Heeman’s is proudly a family-owned and farm/agriculture-based business, and our employees are classified as agriculture employees under the ESA.
This is a full time position with shifts primarily scheduled Monday to Friday between 8:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m. (typically 8–5, 9–5, or 10–6). Are you available to work these shifts?
