Who you are
- 12+ years designing software, with a portfolio of shipped work
- Experience designing technically complex products for technical users — developer tools, infrastructure, data, security, identity, or APIs
- A track record of identifying high-leverage problems yourself and designing end-to-end solutions
- Strong visual design and craft skills
- Skilled at operating independently to turn ambiguous problems into cohesive vision
- A track record of driving your own work: proactively surfacing problems and building alignment with engineering rather than waiting for direction
- Shipped developer-focused experiences, API tooling, or agent experiences
- An engineering or developer background, or have contributed production code
- Comfortable moving fluidly between high-altitude thinking and interaction/craft details
- Work fluently within a design system, and know when to work outside it
- An avid user of AI design tools — able to describe what you use, for what, and where the limits are
What the job involves
- You'll help decide where design effort creates the most value at Apollo, then build it — starting with our core developer experience, the tools engineers use daily to build, test, and manage their APIs
- From there, you'll have real range: another major product area, the onboarding experience for new developers, our design system, and the interfaces our AI agents use are all open ground, depending on where the opportunity is biggest
- This isn't a role where someone hands you a spec. You'll form your own point of view on what's worth building, make the case for it, and own it through to what ships
- Assess Apollo's product surfaces end to end, identify where design effort creates the most leverage, and drive that work from idea through execution
- Lead the modernization of our core developer experiences — turning a set of powerful but disconnected features into coherent journeys
- Partner with engineering as a peer, not a downstream recipient of requirements — bring your own point of view on what should get built, and make the case for it
- Set design and craft standards that other builders — designers, PMs, and engineers alike — actually adopt, contributing patterns to our design system that speed up delivery beyond your own team
- Know when a decision needs real usability testing and when it doesn't
- Tie your design work to something the business measures: developer activation, time-to-first-successful-API-call, or support cost tied to a confusing flow
Benefits
- Globally distributed company: No return-to-office for us. We believe in the strengths that come with being a globally distributed company. Our 220+ Apollonauts located in 10 countries and 13 time zones thrive on working from home, learning from each other, and avoiding long commutes and traffic jams (although that hike to the kitchen for snacks between meetings can be a real journey).
- Flexible Time Off (FTO):
Whether it’s planning a vacation or taking some time to focus on your well-being, one thing matters to us: you have time to focus on you. Rest up, and make sure you share those travel pics when you get back.
*For our UK and Canada teammates, we also offer "flexible time off in practice" which folds in your country-specific nuances so you may share the benefits of taking vacation that is restful, rejuvenating, and individualized for your needs.
- Full benefits package: We provide a variety of meaningful and competitive benefits based on whether you’re located in UK, Canada, or USA. When you go through the recruitment process, we’ll walk you through your country-specific package. No matter what life throws at you, rest assured that you and your family will be covered.
- Parental leave: Welcoming a current child is going to change your world, and we want to be here to support you when you need it.
We offer leave for birthing and non-birthing parents, and a personal leave specialist to guide you through the process.
- Streamlined collaboration: Virtual “coffee chats”, tools that help us work as a distributed company, and a culture of documentation and global inclusivity ensure we stay connected and collaborate throughout the week.
- Company Kickoff: We believe in building meaningful connections with each and every Apollonaut. Once a year, we get the whole team together for our annual Company Kickoff where we learn, align, and most importantly, build relationships with each other. We can’t wait to see you at the next one!
