About the RoleLong Term CareRoyal Ottawa Place is a 64-bed long-term care facility located at The Royal Ottawa Mental Health Centre. It provides a home-like environment for adults with stable mental illness and/or physical limitations. The facility is divided into four home areas, each supporting 16 residents, with an average age of 65 years.Qualifications- Graduate of recognized Diploma Program in Practical Nursing.- Current registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario.- Knowledge of CNO Standards regarding RPN scope of practice.- Understanding of MHA and relevant legislation.- CPR/AED Certification within the last 2 years.- Completion of Prevention of Violence in the Workplace training (C.P.I.) required.- Commitment to ongoing career development.- Technical skills such as glucometer reading, vital signs, injection skills, physical assessment/mental health assessment, catheterization, medication administration, O2 administration, basic wound care, suctioning, safe patient handling,
bladder scanning, ECT recovery, skin care and feeding.- Ability to develop therapeutic relations with patients.- Ability to function as a member of the inter-disciplinary team.- Basic computer skills required.Preferred:- Two years recent experience in psychiatric/mental health nursing.- Knowledge and experience working with individuals with substance use disorders (identifying signs and symptoms of withdrawal or intoxication from substance use).- Experience facilitating groups.- Experience working with patients with concurrent disorders.- Current knowledge of mechanical lifts, transferring and positions techniques.Language RequirementsEnglish level A- is mandatory in oral expression, comprehension, reading and writing.
