The Intermediate Buyer is responsible for sourcing, purchasing, and managing materials, components, and services required to support manufacturing operations. This role ensures material availability, cost competitiveness, supplier performance, and inventory optimization while maintaining quality and delivery requirements. The Intermediate Buyer works closely with Production, Planning, Engineering, Quality, and Suppliers to support operational objectives and continuous improvement initiatives.
Key Responsibilities
Procurement & Purchasing
Purchase raw materials, components, tooling, packaging, and indirect supplies required for production.
Issue and manage purchase orders in accordance with company procedures.
Monitor supplier order acknowledgements and delivery schedules.
Expedite critical orders to prevent production disruptions.
Maintain accurate purchasing records and ERP system data and excel reports.
Inventory & Material Planning
Collaborate with Production Planning to ensure material availability.
Monitor inventory levels and recommend actions to optimize stock.
Manage safety stock levels and reorder parameters.
Support cycle counts and inventory accuracy initiatives.
Support annual budgeting and cost-saving initiatives.
Monitor market trends affecting material costs and availability.
Reporting & Analysis
Track key purchasing metrics including:
On-time delivery
Supplier performance
Purchase price variance (PPV)
Inventory levels
Cost savings
Prepare reports and recommendations for management in excel.
Qualifications
Education
Diploma or Degree in Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, Operations Management, or related field or equivalent work experience.
Experience
3–5 years of purchasing or procurement experience in a manufacturing environment.
Experience with MRP/ERP systems (SAP, Oracle, Epicor, Plex, Microsoft Dynamics, etc.). Strong Excel and Microsoft office required.
Experience purchasing production materials and managing supplier relationships.
Skills & Competencies
Solid negotiation and supplier management skills.
Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities.
Knowledge of manufacturing processes and supply chain principles.
Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and ERP systems.
Strong organizational and time-management skills.
Effective verbal and written communication skills.
Ability to manage multiple priorities in a quick-paced setting.
Pay: $30.00-$35.00 per hour
