WELL Health Technologies

Toronto

WELL Health Technologies is an innovative technology-enabled healthcare company whose overarching objective is to positively impact health outcomes by leveraging technology to empower and support healthcare practitioners and their patients. WELL has built an innovative practitioner enablement platform that includes comprehensive end to end practice management tools inclusive of virtual care and digital patient engagement capabilities as well as Electronic Medical Records (EMR), Revenue Cycle Management (RCM) and data protection services. WELL owns and operates Canada's largest network of outpatient medical clinics serving primary and specialized healthcare services and is the provider of a leading multi-national multi-disciplinary telehealth offering.

WELL Health Technologies is publicly traded on the Toronto Stock Exchange under the symbol "WELL". Reporting to the Senior Director, Digital Transformation, the Applied AI Engineer will design, build, deploy, and optimize AI-powered applications and solutions that create measurable business value across the organization. This is a hands-on engineering role focused on applying AI to real business challenges, not building foundation models.

Working closely with business, data, and technology teams, you will take AI solutions from concept to production, delivering agents, assistants, automations, and applications that help teams work smarter and make better decisions. Joining WELL's growing Business Transformation team, you will help shape the future of AI across one of Canada's leading healthcare technology organizations. This is a fully remote role based anywhere in Canada, with a preference for candidates located in Toronto or Vancouver.

You are an experienced software engineer and builder who has developed strong applied AI capabilities. Whether starting with a whiteboard sketch, a business challenge, or an emerging opportunity, you enjoy taking ownership of the entire journey, from design and development through deployment, adoption, and continuous improvement. You combine strong technical capabilities with curiosity, creativity, and business acumen.

You ask thoughtful questions, challenge assumptions, and enjoy working closely with stakeholders to understand what they are trying to achieve before determining the best technical path forward. While AI is your toolkit, your focus is always on solving real business problems and creating measurable value. Rather than waiting for perfect requirements, you are comfortable navigating complexity, connecting the dots, and building practical solutions that improve efficiency, support decision-making, and automate workflows.

Most importantly, you understand that successful AI solutions require more than great prompts. They require thoughtful integration, secure access to data, testing, monitoring, governance, and ongoing iteration. This is an opportunity to help shape how AI is applied across one of Canada's leading healthcare technology organizations.

You will join a growing team that is building enterprise AI capabilities from the ground up, giving you the chance to contribute to high-impact initiatives and influence how the organization leverages AI in the years ahead. Unlike many AI roles that focus primarily on experimentation, this role offers the chance to see your work move into production, gain adoption, and deliver measurable impact. You will work alongside experienced AI, data, and technology leaders while gaining exposure to enterprise-scale AI implementation across a variety of business functions.

As WELL continues to expand its AI capabilities, there will be opportunities to grow your expertise, take on increasingly complex initiatives, and help shape the future direction of the team. Build AI solutions. You will design, build, deploy, and continuously improve AI-powered solutions that help teams work smarter and make better decisions.

Working closely with business stakeholders, data teams, and technology partners, you will translate business needs into practical applications, intelligent agents, assistants, workflow automations, and other AI-enabled solutions. Connect data and systems. You will connect AI capabilities with enterprise data, systems, APIs, and business applications, ensuring solutions are secure, scalable, and aligned with enterprise standards.

You will partner with Data Engineering and Technology teams to establish reliable data access patterns and support long-term maintainability. Optimize performance. As solutions move into production, you will be responsible for evaluating performance, monitoring effectiveness, implementing appropriate controls and guardrails, and continuously improving outcomes based on user feedback and business results.

Evaluate and Improve AI Performance. You will design testing and evaluation approaches to measure solution quality, accuracy, reliability, and business effectiveness. You will monitor production AI solutions and continuously improve performance based on user feedback and operational metrics.

An key part of this role is the ability to implement guardrails, access controls, and monitoring to support responsible AI use. Along the way, you will collaborate with stakeholders across the organization to identify opportunities, demonstrate solutions, educate users, and help drive the successful adoption of AI technologies. Technical foundation.

You have 5+ years of experience in software engineering, solution engineering, data engineering, automation, or related technical roles. You have experience designing, building,

and deploying production software and AI solutions and understand the realities of supporting those solutions after launch. You have strong programming skills in Python and experience with API, databases, cloud environments, and enterprise integrations to connect systems, data, and AI capabilities to solve business challenges.

AI expertise. You have hands‑on experience building and deploying solutions using modern large language model platforms such as OpenAI, Anthropic Claude, or similar technologies. Beyond the technical skills, you bring a strong delivery mindset.

You understand how to balance innovation with practicality and are motivated by building solutions that create meaningful business outcomes. You are equally comfortable making sound technical decisions and getting hands on to implement them. You communicate effectively with both technical and non‑technical stakeholders and enjoy collaborating with others to understand business challenges, align priorities, and translate needs into practical technical solutions.

You think beyond immediate requirements, consider long‑term scalability, and are always looking for better ways to create value through technology. While not required, experience building AI assistants, agents, workflow automations, enterprise search, or knowledge management solutions would be an asset. Additional experience with LLMs such as OpenAI, Anthropic Claude, Codex, Claude Code, and AI orchestration and automation tooling such as LangGraph, n8n, or Logic Apps, as well as AI monitoring, evaluation, and observability practices, would help you ramp up quickly.

Experience working in healthcare, regulated industries, or privacy-sensitive environments is also considered an asset. We recognize that the best way to serve our diverse patient communities is by reflecting that diversity. With almost 65% of our team members identifying as female and 70% of our leadership identifying as a visible minority, we are proud of our diverse, equitable and inclusive organization.

A virtual interview with a Talent Advisor discussing your interest in the role and your experience. A 45-minute virtual technical interview with a Senior AI Engineer to discuss your technical experience, AI solution delivery, and approach to building enterprise-ready applications. A final virtual interview with the Senior Director, Digital Transformation and VP, Business Transformation to discuss business impact, collaboration, and alignment with WELL's vision for AI.

At WELL, we are committed to fair and equitable compensation and aim to provide a competitive salary that reflects the value and expertise of the successful candidate. We welcome and celebrate the diversity of applicants and team members across ability, race, gender identity, sexual orientation, and lived experience. This recognition reflects our commitment to building a workplace culture rooted in trust, inclusivity, and employee well-being.
