Guided by Indigenous values of respect, humility, relationality, and community care, we provide culturally grounded services including shelter supports during extreme weather and times of crisis. Position Overview The Conflict Support & Safety Worker plays a key role in maintaining a secure, welcoming, and respectful environment within the Seven Fires Warm-Up Shelter. This ununiformed position focuses on conflict prevention, de-escalation, and relationship-based safety, rather than enforcement or traditional security practices. The worker supports guests, staff, and community members by responding calmly to safety concerns,

assisting with crisis situations, and upholding shelter policies in a trauma-informed, culturally respectful, and non-judgmental manner.

Key Responsibilities

Monitor shelter spaces to ensure the safety and well-being of guests, staff, and visitors

Respond to conflicts, disturbances, or safety concerns using verbal de-escalation and mediation techniques

Intervene early to prevent escalation while maintaining dignity and respect for all individuals

Support staff during high-stress or crisis situations

Relationship-Based Engagement

Build respectful, trusting relationships with shelter guests through calm presence and clear communication

Offer support to individuals experiencing emotional distress, substance use impacts, or mental health crises

Encourage positive behaviour and adherence to shelter guidelines without use of force whenever possible
