Position : Intermediate Estimator Division : Transportation Construction Location : Scarborough (Markham Rd / Finch area) Status : Full time, in-office We’re hiring a Transportation Estimator to join our Southern Ontario team in Scarborough, Ontario. If you’re passionate about estimating and engineering, we are working exciting projects in transit and with MTO. This is your chance to thrive in a challenging yet rewarding environment. Deliver accurate estimates in a fast-paced environment, juggling multiple projects from $50K through $150M. As an Intermediate Estimator with us, you’ll play an integral role in preparing take-offs and estimates for transportation. As a key player in our team, you’ll take ownership of preparing accurate and competitive estimates for utilities work on our transportation and transit initiatives. You’ll have the chance to apply your expertise while working on impactful projects with the Ministry of Transportation (MTO) and beyond. Key Responsibilities Prepare electrical and civil take-offs/estimates for transportation and transit projects, including Streetlighting , Traffic Intersections , Intelligent Traffic Systems , and Duct Banks . Accurately estimate the costs of materials, labour, and equipment using detailed drawings and specifications. Lead the tendering process and implement cost-monitoring and reporting procedures. Collaborate with suppliers, subcontractors, and owners to finalize competitive price packages. Actively engage in site reviews, tender reviews, hand-offs, and project closings. Build and maintain a comprehensive directory of suppliers, contractors,



and subcontractors. Propose innovative solutions for project estimates in collaboration with engineers and stakeholders. Develop tender construction schedules and scope-of-work methodologies. Maintain the Bid2Win database for seamless project estimation. Core Competencies Strong communication skills and a customer-first mindset. Detail-oriented with a commitment to teamwork. Education & Experience A degree or diploma in Electrical Engineering or Civil Engineering or Construction Fundamentals 4-6 years minimum of experience in estimating in civil or utilities industry Utilities/electrical trades experience with 2-3 years direct utilities estimating experience an asset Experience on transit and/or transportation construction projects an asset Proficiency in tools like MS Office and estimating software, such as Bid2Win The expected salary range for this role is between $80,000 - $100,000 per year. The starting salary will be determined based on several factors such as the successful candidate’s qualifications, including but not limited to education and experience. Base pay is one component of Black & McDonald’s total rewards package.
