We are seeking a Transport Canada approved Marine Instructor to join our team and provide high-quality instruction in marine safety, navigation, and boating skills. Specifically, we are seeking a Small Vessel Operator Proficiency (SVOP) instructor. The ideal candidate will have a passion for teaching and a strong background in maritime education. This role involves delivering engaging lessons, ensuring student safety, and fostering a positive learning environment for individuals of all skill levels.
The Marine
Instructor will play a vital role in preparing students for safe and responsible marine activities while promoting environmental awareness and safety protocols. Commercial fishing background is highly favourable.
The instructor will be expected to deliver the course in remote communities along the coast and Vancouver Island working with First Nations groups and commercial fishermen.
Responsibilities
Conduct classroom-based lessons on marine safety, navigation, and boating techniques
Develop and implement instructional plans that meet curriculum standards and student needs
Maintain up-to-date knowledge of maritime regulations, safety standards,
and best practices
Foster an inclusive and engaging learning environment that encourages student participation
Promote safe and responsible boating practices among students
Skills
Classroom experience in teaching or instructing, preferably in maritime or related fields
Solid communication skills to effectively convey complex concepts to diverse audiences
Ability to create engaging lesson plans that cater to different learning styles
Knowledge of maritime safety regulations, navigation systems, and boating equipment
Excellent organizational skills with attention to detail
Passion for teaching and mentoring students of all ages and skill levels
Ability to work collaboratively with team members and external partners
Commitment to maintaining a secure, respectful, and positive learning environment
Qualifications
Must already be an approved authorized instructor by Transport Canada to deliver the SVOP course
Pay: $65.00-$70.00 per hour
