Position Overview

Laurus is looking for an enthusiastic and engaging Karate Instructor to lead a weekly after-school karate program for children from Kindergarten to Grade 4 at Kells Academy in NDG.

The instructor will introduce students to the fundamentals of karate in a secure, positive, age-appropriate, and fun environment. The program should help children develop coordination, confidence, focus, discipline, and respect while keeping them active and engaged.

Key Responsibilities
Plan and lead a structured one-hour karate class each week.
Teach age-appropriate karate fundamentals, including basic stances, movements, techniques, and coordination exercises.
Adapt activities to accommodate children of different ages, abilities, and experience levels.




Incorporate games and engaging activities to keep younger participants motivated and involved.
Promote values such as respect, self-control, perseverance, confidence, and teamwork.
Maintain a protected and supportive setting throughout each session.
Manage the group effectively and encourage positive participation.
Ensure activities and techniques are appropriate for an elementary-school after-school setting.

Qualifications
Experience practicing and/or teaching karate or another relevant martial art.
Experience working with children, particularly elementary-school-aged children.
Strong communication and group-management skills.
Energetic, patient, dependable, and comfortable working with younger children.
Ability to create an inclusive and encouraging learning environment.
Teaching, coaching, or martial arts instructor certification is considered an asset.
